I know that grease will break down royal icing so I am always hesitant to put royal icing flowers on a bc cake. But what about whipped cream? I have a cake to do next weekend and the customer wants whipped cream frosting.

I'm about to make some royal for a batch of cookies and if I can make some flowers for that cake now it will save me a lot of time. However, I don't want to do it if they will breakdown.

Thanks in advance! thumbs_up.gif

Most icing that contains any fat will eventually cause royal to break down. However, if the royal is very, very dry and they are place on the cake at the last minute, they won't instantly turn to mush. They will slowly melt. If you are not using very bright colors, it should be fine.

I've put royal icing flowers on buttercream cakes several times and they've lasted a couple of days with no problems. I think it would be totally fine on whipped cream.
