Cake's Bake Better With The Oven On...

Just thought I would give everyone a reminder of that since I seemed to have forgotten that last night.
I had 3 cakes to bake last night...got the first batch in, and when they were finished, had the next one ready to go. It was suppose to bake 45 minutes and with about 7 minutes left, I looked in the oven door, and said, hm, that will never be done in 7 minutes. Walked away, and said wait a minute, walked back over the oven, and looked...it was completely shut off!!!! I must have turned off the oven by mistake when I turned off the oven timer! One of those KA touch button everything stoves.
So I turned it back on, set the time for 30 minutes, and sat back down to wait! Needless to say it was now 11 pm, and I was ready for bed, but hey, you do what you got to do.
It baked up okay, didn't have much to trim off...it was a 11x15 sheet and i had used to full mixes, so wasn't much to level off. I think it is okay to use! Will know tonight when I go to cut it in half and start decorating it.
So ladies, moral of the story is...be sure your oven is on when you bake your cakes! ![]()
Charman, I run into the same problem with my Kenmore gas oven...When the timer goes off, everything goes off...I feel your pain. Of course, it is usually when I am tired late at night, or when I have multiple cakes re-using pans (because I am cheap will not buy multiples of same size just yet) when this happens!
I did that once right after i got my Kenmore Gas range. I had used the Cook Time button instead of the Timer button and my stupid oven turned off! I was so mad and then I firgured out what happened. I pretty much only use the Timer button now. I HATE when that happens!! LOL
I've done something similar. The oven at our last house didn't turn on until you pressed the start button. Many times, I would set the oven temp but forget to press the start button. I've also, in an attempt at turning off the timer, turned off the oven. Not realizing what I'd done expected the next cake I put in to actually bake! ![]()
You are definitely not alone in this.
Heeee...my MIL did this with the Thanksgiving turkey one year! She was a good sport about it, we all laughed, and I knew that I need never worry about being perfect! Which is good, b/c several years later I sliced into my own holiday bird, and that sucker was still frozen!
