Thank God my mother lets me use her as a guinea pig. I thought I would make her a cake for MD as I never had before, she was thrilled to even be experimented on.
The cake is Pink Champagne, the cake scraps were a little bit different but I liked it, once I paired it with the Crusting Cream Cheese frosting, I really couldn't taste anything. The frosting was a first also, It worked up beautifully, crusting better than alot of BC that I use. The cake was only a 6 inch, just to feed her and me!
Tried Marthas new basketweave, thank a ton for the tutorial!! Not perfect but overall I liked the effect, soooooooooooooo easy.
This idea is LARGLEY borrowed from the gallery, I'm sorry I don't remember the name.
Roses are done with my brand new stepsaver fondant rose maker from wilton, my mom picked it up for my in Tuscon, after not finding one at 5 stores in Phoenix (she travels and picks stuff up for me all the time, love it) my BC roses, well, they suck so i try to avoid them. The daises and drops were made a few months ago and stored. I piped the pansies directly on in BC, need to practice those. As usual, not up to snuff to suit me, I swear, even after I have done a cake 10 times, it is still a learning experience. Put on a vellum scrapbook paper.
Heather,
Your cake is beautiful!!!
I live just outside of Tucson. Where did your mom find the fondant rose maker?
Vicki
My mom said the store had initials in it something like " L &G", she couldnt remember, said that there were 2 in the phone book and that it was the first one. I heard about the stepsaver rose maker on this site, found it in the back section of my wilton yearbook but couldnt get it around here. I like it, it is going to take some practices to get fast at it, but I do believe it saves time for how nice the roses turn out.
You can order the products directly from the wilton website or from the yearbook, I believe it has an order form in it like a catalog would. If you can find i locally though, you can save the shipping. Also it comes in the course 3 class kit if you have a store that sells those. It has the fondant mat, the rose tools and some tips ect in it so if you can't find it and could use the other stuff, its worth considering.

Is that what the stepsaver fondant rosemaker is? The stuff in the Course 3 kit? I love fondant roses, but there are a lot of steps with the Course 3 kit tools. I spent almost a whole weekend doing roses for Course 3. BTW, Heather I love your cake--especially the aqua top.
I would love the recipe for Pink Champagne Cake...
The basketweave looks fantastic, as do the roses!
gilpnh, I totally LOVE your avatar!
I think I need a tutorial for the search engines on this site. I typed in Pink Champagne Cake in the keyword box on the forum search and got over 1200 hits. I have the same problem narrowing down a search in the recipe section. What am I doing wrong?
Did you use the crusting cream cheese icing recipe that's on this site? I wanted to try it ![]()
It looks really yummy!!!! Denise, I also have problems using the search. I found that if you go into the advanced search and pick posts at the bottom, instead of topics sometimes it cuts down on the choices. I still can't really ever find anything!!
DeniseMarlaine, I had a hard time to, I have found that being more brief helps, and use the word "AND" type in pink AND champagne
try it, it was like the 7th or 8th one down. Here it is though

Just wanted to share this recipe I found for a Pink Champagne cake. someone had asked for it when I posted my pics for the wedding cake tasting. It is SUPER MOIST and SUPER yummy and so romantic looking too when you cut into it.
1 box of French or white cake mix
2 envelopes Dream Whip (I tried it once using white chocolate pudding as a replacement but the DW makes MUCH more moist)
4 egg whites
1 whole egg
1/4 cup veggie oil
1 1/4 flat pink champagne
Beat all ingredients together in mixer for 3 minutes. Add a couple of drops of light pink food color (keep it light or it looks too phony). Bake according to directions and til toothpick comes out clean.
When preparing my buttercream I used salted butter and replaced the milk with flat pink champagne...soooo yummy!!
Yes I used the crusting cream cheese icing from this site, WOWSSERS!

great job on your cake - how nice of your mother to be your guinea pig! Excellent cake!
Thanks Heather. I tried everything I could think of (including clicking 'posts' as suggested by Newcakelady) but couldn't find it. I guess I'm just search challenged.
