Is it ok to put roses directly into your cake?

It isn't a good idea to put stems directly into the cake. Wilton's flower spikes are good (with or without a few drops of water) and if you don't have those, you can use a straw to hold the stem in place.

I know some people do put them in directly, and some wrap them in florist tape first. I find the straws or flower spikes much more professional.
