Go into your forum info and there it asks if you want to allow comments on your photos.

The purple cake is gorgeous. Don't fret over it anymore - your co-worker probably needs something for drama in her life and you happened to provide it.

Silly people.

The cake was beautiful, once the cake leaves your hands you can't control what the customer does with it. It wasn't cracked when you gave it to her.
Charge her double next time.

You did a great job on the cake. You just happen to get a moody, picky person to make a cake for. I saw the cake and it looked great. Don't worry it was your first of many cakes orders. Just next time charge more.

Keep trying new things.

Your cake was great by the way, and there is no such thing as too much chocolate for a "So called Self Proclaimed Chocohalic!" In my opinion! But I love chocolate and could eat it all day!

I am confused to, she said there was not enough cake for 30 people, yet there was left over?? How does that add up.
Did she tell you the cake was for Sunday? If you guys decided on a Friday Delivery for convenience - work and all that, then forget it and leave it to learning process and getting experience. Next time tell your customers that they can pick it up the day of or or the day before the party, otherwise you cannot guaranty the cake will look good, because of the different conditions are their house.
I always worry about that. If I have a delivery on Friday night, I bake either Wed night and freeze or Thursday night and I decorate on Friday morning. If the cake is due in the morning I decorate the night before. If the cake needs to be refrigerated I make sure to give the customer the dimensions of the box and tell them they cannot put anything on top of the cake so if they mess it up once they put it in the fridge, that is their deal!

Us newbies have so much to learn and each time we have a new order we learn something new. All I can say, is start yourself a book. I have a binder with the original order form. ( I now have one), then a drawing of my idea. Or a print out of my design. I have the pictures online so I dont worry about that, but any notes or changes I make to recipes or issues I had or anything goes on the back of the order form so I know the next time what I might have done wrong or what I could do better.
Because with time you forget.

So like another poster mentioned, maybe you want to make another cake for the office and see how everyone reacts. If somehow it was too chocolaty, then you can tell your next customer, instead of chocolate chocolate, I suggest a fruitty or lemony filling since my chococate cake takes Chocohalics over the edge already!

Good Luck on your next cake, you flowers were beautiful by the way!

The size you gave her was definitely too small for 30 people. A cake like that would only feed 24 people if you made them cupcake sized servings. For that size party, you would need to make a 10 inch round, which serves 30-36.

Cracks *can* happen, if the board under the cake flexes. That said, you should tell your friend that without a picture of the "crack" you can't even begin to figure out what caused it, especially since it was not there when she picked it up.

These things do happen and as you get more experience, you'll learn how to avoid problems like this. Most people will tell you how awesome your cake was and thank you for your hard work. They certainly won't criticize something when all your *time* was free.

The next time she ask you to bake her a cake, and she will, tell her to go to ------ Sams. I agree, This is someone who wants something for nothing and still wants to complain about it.

The nerve of some people! I would tell her next time to go to Wal-mart. Let her try to get a cake to serve 24 people for $20.

I also bake on Thursday, decorate on Friday for Saturday deliveries. And since I work full-time, a lot of times I will bake the Saturday before and put in the freezer. I pull it out on Thursday for leveling, filling, and crumbcoating.

Since I live in the south and it is hot and humid here too, I always advise my clients on how to keeping the cake in the refrigerator (buttercream only) or in a cool place in the house and out of direct sunlight. One lady kept hers in the guest bedroom until the party!

You might also want to try doubling/tripling your cakeboards or use foamcore board since most people don't really know how to handle cakes.

In the meanwhile, chalk this up to experience and don't let it keep you from enjoying cake decorating or making cakes for other people.
