Hi ladies...
I was hoping you could help me put a price on this cake as I am clueless when it comes to pricing. It's a chocolate kahlua cake w/ chocolate icing and filling. Sizes are 8, 10 & 12". The heights are about 4" each. I had dipped 88 strawberries but couldn't fit all of them on the cake but I think I got about 50 on there. I only did about a dozen of the tuxedo ones. How do I price this? Is $300 too much? My husband said who would pay 300 for a cake, there's nothing special about it. icon_rolleyes.gif How much would it be with out strawberries? With strawberries? Gumpaste topper of cards. I had made some chips too but it didn't look right so I didn't put it on.

TIA =)

THere's nothing special about it????? GIve me your address so I can come over and smack some sense into your hubby! icon_lol.gif

12/10/8 according to the wilton chart is 118 servings, so that's less than $3 a slice INCLUDING the strawberries and the details tuxedo decor you put on them! $300 is absolutely reasonable for this cake!

("nothing special about it, he says, " she mumbled under her breath. She continued to rant and rave, her "mom" voice beginning to shine thru loud and clear: "I'll show him 'nothing special'! Don't tell me about special! YOU don't know what's special! I'll special him right up side the head! Yeah....THAT will be 'special'!") icon_twisted.gif

Your cake looks great by the way!

IMHO, the cake would serve about 80 + people, or is that over 100 since it's a 4 inch. I forget the formula.

Anyhow, if you are going to purchase the strawberries hand dipped, they can range from $1 - $4 a piece depending on the chocolate and details.

So let's say 40 at $1.50 and 12 tuxedo at $3.00 just to be conservative. That is $120 right there.

Then if you charge $1.50 per slice for the cake you are looking at: $120 to $150 for the cake.

IMO I think that you are good with the $300. Depending on how the cake prices go around in your area.

You dont want to be so low as to be lower than the bakery but you do not want to outprice yourself.

It's so much easier for someone else to give their opinion, I know when it's my turn I seem to find all the excuses to lower my price!! Sick I know.

Good Luck.
