My dog has a VERY big flea problem!!!! We give him a bath everyday, spray him with flea spray, and have done everything posible to rid our house of fleas. And all that stuff works. BUT! As soon as he's gone outside, he's infested AGAIN!!! I have no idea what to use to get the fleas out of the yard!!! Does anyone know what you can use to kill the fleas in your yard, but not the yard itself?? PLEASE help me ladies!!!

Our vet told us to use water with bit of orange oil in it to keep ticks away and I"m thinking it works for the fleas too. Our dog is strictly an outside dog we haven't had any pest problems since we started using that. For some reason they just don't like the smell of the citrus. For the yard I would check out Wal-Mart and Home Depot to see what they have, most insectacides don't harm the lawn. Good luck.

We have 4 dogs outside and my husband uses what is called Sevin Dust, you can buy it at Lowes, Walmart, Home Depot. You can go online to lowes and type in sevin dust in the search box and read about it. It works pretty good for us. Hope this helps!

I use frontline on my cats and dogs and I think it works great, but it is expensive.

If you don't get them out of the yard, you'll never get 'em off the dog. Seven Dust works great...but you need to keep applying it at regular intervals for a long time to get them completely gone and then still do it periodically to keep them at bay. But you need to treat the inside of your house too, if the dog comes in and out...probably need to find another product for that. I've heard of the orange oil trick too...that would be great for the dog & he'd always smell yummy! icon_razz.gif

Few things you need to know before going crazy with the 7 dust....
Animals and children can't come into contact with it. It is toxic not only to the pest but can make kids sick and I have seen some really bad reactions to it at the Vet Hospital.

Advantage, frontline, and Revolution are all great products. Considering a monthly supply is around $10.00 and they KILL the fleas with one bite I think it is a bargain. If you know about the life cycle of the flea (and boy I do after 15 years of this) you know they have to have a blood meal every 24 hours. This means even the fleas in your house will be dead in 24-48 hours of treatment of the pets without treating the enviroment. This does NOT kill eggs or larva stages though. However, as soon as those little buggers are big enough to get on the pet-BLAMO they are dead. The trick to this is to treat all the animals in the house at the same time. And to realize that just because other stores sell topical products that are applied the same way and are packaged the same way they AREN'T the same thing and don't work as well. One name brand has been responsible for many deaths and is still on the market.

If you want to treat your yard I recommend a product with pyrethryin in it. It will kill the flea and the larval stage and will be safe for your yard and pets. Nothing gets the egg stage so you just have to wait to get those little buggers after they hatch.

I am now leaving my flea soap box. LOL

When we had a dog, we used Avon's Skin So Soft.
I found this online....

Mix 5 parts water, 1 part SSS and mist on animals to keep coats shiny and continue to repel fleas.

I swear by the frontline. I have 2 American Eskimos (very furry) And haven't had one flea. I love the stuff!

I have used advantage on my animals since they came out with it and I have not had a problem since then. You get it from your vet. I was infested with fleas and once I started using this I noticed a substantial difference within the first few days and then within two weeks I didn't see any signs. You apply it once a month (I think). I haven't had to do it regularly since I battled the fleas. I put it on at the first sign of a flea and that is all it takes. Kind of like a maintenance program. I hope that helps!
