well, just like the subject says I need to get some black fondant for a cake that's due next thursday (hopefully it's not too late to have it shipped to me!).....anyhow, I have to do a crazy guitar cake and the background color is black and I didn't want to mess around with making my own MMF and trying to get it black......also I plan on using a 12x18"x2 cake pan to make the cake........does anyone have any idea how much fondant I may need to cover this and have a little extra for the plate thingy on the top of the guitar??? I'm so freaked out, they sent me photos finally (I was asked to do this cake 4 months ago for a guy's graduation...it's a surprise to him) and they want the cake to be identical to his guitar.....of course.......how anyone looked at this guitar and thought, hey that would make a great cake is beyond me LOL

I use Satin Ice from Country Kitchens - it tastes pretty good.

I've used Satin Ice also, but I purchased it from a local store!

Satin Ice makes a very dark chocolate fondant. I usually knead just a few drops of black cake color and come out with a nice black. I have also used pettinice chocolate and added black with great results.

SatinIce sells premade black fondant - I use it alot - much easier than fooling w/ coloring fondant!

Satin Ice makes it. If your lucky your cake supply store may sell it. I get mine at gourmet-restaurant supply store.

okay, I got some chocolate satin ice.........I need some brown for the neck of the guitar so I figure I can just add a little black to it for the body of the guitar without getting a nasty flavor right??? Also without too much work?? Everywhere I looked said I needed 3 lbs. to cover a 1/2 sheet........I bought 5 lbs.!!!! I'm only doing a single layer.........and I didn't know if the charts were for double layers or not....guess I'm better safe than sorry.....don't wanna end up with not enough....just hope I can find another reason to use the rest of it!

I just knead in a tiny amount black coloring at a time. IT is less messy that way. I love the color of black it achieves.

If you order from www.cakesbysam.com you should have it in a couple of days. They carry Satin Ice, which is good.
