What would you ladies charge for a wedding cake per serving for just frosting it. There is no decoration whatsoever. They are 3 layers of cake and just frosted very smooth. The bride is providing the ribbon to go around the cakes and I just have to apply the ribbon. It is a four tier stacked cake. I say $2 per serving my husband says $1.75. Also how do you figure the serving size when another layer is added? I took the basic 2 inch-2 layer cake serving size and split it in half, then added that. So for a 8 inch I came up with 37.5 servings for three layers. Is that correct or am I way off?
HI
I DON'T THINK THAT THE SERVINGS ARE CORRECT. NOT TOO SURE HOW TO FIGURE THAT OUT. TO BE HONEST, I DON'T THINK THAT THE SERVINGS WOULD BE TOO DIFFERENT FROM THE 2 LAYER.
AS FOR THE DECORATING FEE. YOU ARE BASE ICING AND APPLYING THE RIBBONS, CORRECT? ARE YOU DOWELLING AND STACKING THE CAKES AS WELL?
I CHARGE $2.25 MIN PER SERV FOR MY WEDDING CAKES. I DON'T USUALLY CHANGE THAT PRICE AT ALL. IN THE END, IT IS ALL PRETTY MUCH THE SAME AMOUNT OF WORK.
BESTEST

Yes, I will be dowling and stacking the cakes. In the wilton book the serving sizes for 1- 3 inch cake would be 15, where as a round that is the same size just not as tall{1-2 inch} would serve like 12.5. So I think it will change the serving size, I just don't know the proper way to figure it out. I have a ballpark price calculated I was just thinking it may be too high. I hate pricing cakes!!!! ![]()
I managed to find the picture of the cake on the web of what the bride showed me. My price was $475, that is with an 8,10,12 and 16 inch dummy cake. Also I charged a set up/delivery fee. Does this sound reasonable? I keep thinking it's too high. But I don't want to give it away either. The bride is getting the ribbon and the topper. The price is estimated at $2.00 per serving plus the cost of the dummy supplies {times 2.5}. What do you all think? I came up with a serving size of 180. That's the part I need the most help on now!
Pretty cake, and no you are not high. Getting a cake perfectly smooth with no decorations is tuff. If it were me I would either charge 2 or 2.25. I think you are right on. The ribbon is the easy inexpensive part.
If you use an 8/10/12 you won't have much of a ledge it should be 3-4in looks to me like its
16/12/8/4 it will look fat and stubby if you have only a small ledge. I charge $2.50 per serv for BC
servings =156 I use Earlenes cake serving chart
Yeah ,I know about the ledge you all are talking about. I was trying to point that out to the bride but she didn't really know what she wanted to begin with! She had said she wanted the bigger ledge and then changed her mind again. So she decided on those sizes and we left it at that. She WANTS a 4 tier cake but only needs it to serve anywhere from 100-145 people. Which I don't get either! She said there will be 225 people invited, so I hope not everyone wants cake
I think she is anticipating{1} not many people showing up or {2} people eating more groom's cake.
I find it helps to have some dummies on hand and set the cake up in the different sizes for the bride to have a visual you can also use pans upside down and stack them with different sizes that way the bride sees what she is getting. Yes they don't always order for the # that they expect. Sometimes the cake is just for pics and cutting I had one bride order for 100 and the parents, grandparants took each a tier home with them there was 140 at the wedding and the cake wasn't even served whats up with that. The cake was ordered knowing it wasn't being served.
I am certainly getting an education on wedding cakes here. I've only made one so far and that was for a wedding yesterday. I guess my pricing has been back-asswards. When asked for a price, I find out how many guests we need cake for, and usually go with $2 and up per serving. Never thought about just having one for looks and feeding a smaller crowd.
I think your price of $475 is very reasonable. Good luck!
In my family cake is not really eaten at the reception it pretty much just stays there....but then the next day it is tradition that the cake is served at a gift opening party where gifts are opened and coffee, cake and tea is served...If anyone had a video camera or developed there photos they are shared with the group............fun times!!
Now Ive been to plenty of weddings and have never seen that happen usually the cake is all gobe especially my cakes.... there isnt any left !!
I guess to each his own..as long as I get paid!! lol
I think you are definitely resonable. The part that takes me the longest is the baking and icing of the cake. You'll be putting in some time just to get the layers even and smooth.
