Rolling Fondant - Product Question
Decorating By DelightsByE Updated 15 May 2006 , 1:48am by DelightsByE
A lot of instructions for rolling out fondant to make bows, ribbons and the like all talk about running the fondant through a pasta roller.
I was browsing at Michaels the other day, and they had a machine that looked a LOT like a pasta machine, that's designed to be used for polymer clay:

Is there any reason why we could't use this machine for fondant? I'd rather not spend the money on a real pasta machine if this much cheaper one will work.
Yes, this machine will work with fondant. You have to grease the rollers forst, just like you would with an electric model.
I bought one, because I don't make the bows or ribbons that often. I like it very much for my purposes.

That's the same one I use. Use your 40% off coupon and it's even less!

Ok that is wonderful news!
Now for my next question. This same company also makes embossing plates that are designed to go through this machine, has anyone used THESE with fondant?

I have embossing sheets that I bought in the clay section of Michael's, but a different brand. I love them. I impress them with a hard brayer (found in the stamping section, there are different kinds, so be careful which you get), or a rolling pin, depending on the item, size, etc.

I got most of my fondant tools in the polymer clay section before Wilton put them out. Home Depot is another good spot for cake decorating tools! ![]()

OH yeah Cakemaker - about half the tools in my cake kit came from Lowe's rather than Wilton hahahaha! ![]()
Thanks everybody for your input...I've clipped my coupon and will be stopping first thing in the AM!
