I am making a 2 tiered birthday cake for the first time (yikes) The cake I picked out is a fondant cake. My question is, can I ice the cake with buttercream icing and use fondant cutout's to apply to apply to the cake. I wasn't sure if they would bleed onto the icing or not stick.

Also, if I make these cutouts ahead of time would you recommend that I let them airdry before applying to the cake??? I really appreciate your help. I just found this site and it's the first time I have posted on it. I'm hoping someone can help me with this icon_smile.gif

Sure, you can apply fondant cutouts to buttercream icing. I wouldn't let them dry in advance, but that's just my personal preference. You can adhere the fondants cutouts to the buttercream with a few small dots of buttercream piped on the back of the cutout.

Hope that helps!
