Okay, some of you might remember my "saga" with making a cake with a Holland theme. First it was going to be a cake with gumpaste tulips, then a windmill cake, and I finally settled on clogs. The tulips were out of the running because I suck at gumpaste molding apparently. I had to scratch the windmill idea (my favorite) because I couldn't figure out how I would assemble it.
Last night I was at a book sale, and found a novelty cake book from like, 1975-1980. I was flipping through it while I was waiting in line to pay, and lo and behold....a windmill cake! Grrrrrr! Where was this book 2 weeks ago?!?!?
Oh well....
Isn't that always the way it happens? Well, at least you could try it now just for fun... or next time you need to do a Dutch themed cake.
Not sure how often you would need to make tulips but I have a picture of BC tulips that I found somewhere that you could try next time instead of gumpaste. Sorry, I JUST deleted the bookmark this morning & I don't remember the name of the website! I saved it because I want to try & figure out how to make them!
swoboda...if you figure those tulips out please post indtructions!! Those are gorgeous.
MeghanB I feel your pain. I just bought gumpaste because I found a small book at a yard sale & I cant get the hang of them either. I figured out roses and calla lilies on my own, but those were the easy one. The others well lets just say I wont be posting pics anytime soon. lol
BellaRosa
In a Nicholas Lodge DVD and I he does similar tulips. Because of mom's day and a lot of shenanagans with a big boys poker party my DH is having tonight I can't look at it 'till later. He uses a lot of patchwork cutters though. I am prone to forgetting, because of quadruple tasking please don't be shy PM. me early next week if you don't see a post. Thanx
The cake that Swoboda posted is from www.jacquespastries.com. I remember it because I love that cake. But I have not idea how to do the tulips. If anyone has any ideas please let me know.
Thanks,
Cindy
