I have a question for you all how do you keep your little girls hair? my DD is 3 and has very long hair past the middle of her back and we have had it trimmed several times and its healthy and gorgous (ill try to post a pic) and I love her hair but for some reason I want to cut it into a short bob for the summer I think it would be so cute and easy but im just not sure if i can bring myslef to cut it what would you do?

She's such a cutie! I don't know about cutting it short, although I understand that it would be easy.

Will she tolerate if you just put it up in a ponytail every day to get through the summer? I just think you might regret it if you cut it. She does have gorgeous hair. icon_smile.gif

It's too pretty to cut.
Will she sit still for braiding and stuff? That's the best way to keep a little girl's hair if it's long.

She's gorgeous. I go through this periodically with my DD. She grows her hair long and gorgeous, but we both start to get tired of it. So about once a year, we cut it into a cute bob, then she'll let it grow until it gets unmanageable again. Plus, she's 7, so if it's super long, she has a devil of a time washing it by herself. At its longest, when she was about 5, she had to move her hair out of her way to use the bathroom!! icon_eek.gif That was when we donated 12 inches to Locks of Love!!
BUT... she likes to have shorter hair in the winter and long hair in the summer so she can have ponytails and braids for the warm weather.

I say, give it some thought, talk it over with her, and if you still want to, go for it. It's hair, it will grow back! And, I promise, the sick feeling that you will get in your stomach when her hair hits the floor...it will go away. icon_wink.gif

I have a sick feeling in my stomach thinking about it my hair has always been long and it got to a point where I felt it defined my beauty if that makes since and I dont want her to get stuck thinking she has to have long hair. she does sit really well for her hair to be fixed always has I only wish I knew how to french braid. she has an appt tommrow to get her hair cut she definitly need at least an inch or so because it is becomming to heavy for her and unmanagable for me im just still mulling the idea of the bob by the way my husband will kill me if he knew i was thinking of cutting her hair. Thankyou for all your sweet comments.

My DH freaked out the first time we cut DD's hair, too. But I pointed out that he's not the one who washes it, combs out the tangles 50 times a day and has to fix it every day. Also, DD wanted it, so what could he say?
I think it's not a bad idea to open up your DD to 'hair options'. If it helps any, my DD's hair grew back much faster than I thought. We cut off the 12 inches in 2005 and then she let it grow until last fall when we cut off another 9 inches.

She has gorgeous hair! What if you just kept getting a little bit at a time, so it's not so drastic and not so much of a shock?

my 3 year olds hair is long and gorgeous like your daughter's hair too! don't cut it!!!! everyone always tells me how gorgeous it is. i try to make hairbrushing time fun, she lets me blow dry it and put a little spray in her bangs (we're trying to grow those out too and they're just past the stuck in the eye stage.

Do you know someone who can teach you to french braid? It really isn't that hard.

Something to think about is how thick her hair is, mine is pretty thick and as a child I always wanted it shorter but my mom wouldn't let me. After I had my first child I cut it to shoulder length and it was horrible, I couldn't get more than 3 twists in a braid and it was impossible to put up. I realised that my mother had kept it long because for my hair it was easier, both of my sisters had short hair.

Well... I'm for keeping the hair, but if you cut it, get it done at a salon where they can donate to locks of love. I just got 11 inches cut off mine (16" two years ago) and it's a great feeling to know you are doing something good.

If you plan to cut it yourself, go to the locks of love website to get info.

Maybe this can be a special thing you and your daughter can do every couple years....

My hair was past my butt the first time, got it cut to midback... Two years later it was to my butt, got it cut and it is still long... You could do it too! If you are going to cut - make it WORTH it. They need at least 10 inches and prefer 11" or more (healthy hair, not with broken or split ends)

i love locks for love. that's what i do too. i grow it out and when it's long enough i get it all chopped off and donate it. I've done it four times now and i just think such a worthwhile cause.

Iam familar with locks of love just last month I had 10 inches cut off my hair and I donated it but I think we have decieded to keep the hair the shock and horror from my husband and her grandparents was enough to convince me there would be trouble if i cut it so we are going in this morning we will probably but a few inches off it but not enought to make a drastic difference. thankyou all for your opinions.

I have a toddler and I refuse to get her hair cut because I don't want to let go of my baby if that makes sense! She's a monkey so she is my last baby!

Having said that no situation ever stays the same and hair will always grow back. Plus it is supposed to be trimmed to keep it healthy.

The dilemmas only a mother can know! Tough call!
