Thank you mom2seven!!
On a happier note, here is my other baby (yes, we had three) who now lives with my brother. My brother was lonely and got along so well with Harley that I thought they should be together. It was hard to let go, but I know it was the right thing to do!
(Of course... now that bro has a woman.....) ![]()
Actually, seeing all this happy and healthy looking kitties has been therapeutic. our cat has been on his 9th life for four months. The vet told us he has 1 week to 1 month (with subcutaneous fluids) and it's now been four. He looks like hell - our fat cat is now skin and bones and he's vomiting every time he eats, but he still cuddles on our laps, tries to catch the bugs through the window just likes to be near us - he doesn't know he's dying.. but we know it's the VERY end... he just turned 13 and his kidneys are COMPLETELY kaput....
but seeing all the beautiful kitties reminded me of how wonderful they are as pets and I will be happy to get a couple new ones later this summer/fall once Nimbus finally leaves us.... Let me see if I have a picture of him on this computer (it will be a "thinner" version of him) but he's still beautiful in the face!
Should say that Nimbus is an Iowa born farm cat! LOL He was born in my moms closet from the stray mommy who my mom took in. She brought him to Chicago, we brought him to Philadelphia when we moved, then to Ontario, then back to Iowa and then to Virginia - if he wasn't fixed when he was 3 months old, just imagine how far his seed would have spread! LOL
Melissa
Alright, now I've got the water works running!!!
Melvira ... I am also very sensitive when it comes to animals ... just thinking about them suffering or dying makes me cry!! I can't even watch the animal rescue/ER shows on Animal Planet ... way too hard to watch. ![]()
Melissa ... I'm so sorry about your Nimbus being so sick. What a sweet kitty. I know that you are loving him up every day that he is still with you.
Our vet didn't do an autopsy on Snoopy, but he thought he either had a heart attack, stroke, or liver failure. Poor guy. I just have to believe that he went quickly ... he looked so peaceful when I found him.
We buried him right next to our house, and I planted a hosta in that spot. That hosta flourishes every year ... Snoopy must be working his magic. ![]()
Melvira ... your Harley is so cute. That was so nice of you to give him to your brother. ![]()
mom2seven ... so sorry to hear about the fatty liver disease. It seems like there are so many diseases that kitties can get that aren't discovered until it's too late. ![]()
Well I couldn't let this thread go by without adding a photo or two of my furbabies and my not so furry babies.
My big baby is Yoshi. His mother was an Abyssinian and his father was a big tuxedo tom cat that some woman had rescued (Jasmin and Boodles). Unfortunately before Boodles could be fixed he impregnated about four of her purebred cats including Jasmin. Yoshi was one of three kittens. He'll be 14 on Aug. 1st.
The other two cats are Pandora, whom I got from a neighborhood grocery store in Brooklyn. The owners/brothers had rescued the mother and were keeping/hiding her in the store's bathroom. She gave birth to four kittens and I took Pandora and gave her to my then fiance the month before we got married since he had lost his cat about 2 years earlier. She's now 14.
Chibi was a true rescue. His mother gave birth to him and the rest of the litter in my uncle's car, in the garage in Long Island. The mother moved her litter except for him and never came back for him. After waiting about six hours my aunt called me fearful that he was not going to make it. His eyes had just opened on the day we picked him up so he was probably about two weeks old. He was bottle fed by me and DH. He's now 11.
I want to get in on the fun here are my babies the momma cat (the one standing) is meow shes my husband he brought her home and asked her what her name is and she meowed well you get the picture she is 7 years old and as mean as can be to anybody that is not her daddy for him shes an angel and we love her
and then laying down is kiki my DD named her when she was only 1 so kiki was all she can say she was mean as my cat but is really more my sons they have a really strong bond. but these cats really are family to us and just as spoiled as our kids.
Speaking of cats reacting to another's absence and their subsequent return....
Pandor and Yoshi are six months apart and it worked out great that the day we picked up Yoshi, Pandora was at the vets being spayed. When she came home all groggy (well at least a bit groggy) she immediately went over to the new kitten and half carried/half dragged him under our bed. I called my mother (who had taken Yoshi's sister/littermate) and told her I wanted to get a kitten. She was like, "What happened?! You just got one today!" I said, "Yeah, I thought so too, but no I didn't. Pandora got one and now I want one."
From then on Yoshi was part of the family and shortly after that my mother told me she was tired of taking care of my dog and I had to take him. Thank God our landlord who originally didn't want pets, but okayed the cats, understood how desperate I was and let us take Rusty into our apartment. He was eleven and I had had him since he was a puppy!
Poor Chibi, though. We thought Pandora was going to mother him like she had Yoshi, but all she did was hiss at him for the first 8 or 9 months! No help from her when it came to caring for our little rescue. You'd never know looking at them now!
By the way, I won't go into all the names, but to everyone who's lost a kitty, or another animal, my sympathies. For those that are nursing a sick animal, I'll keep your and your dear furry one, in my prayers. I've lost pets over the years and I know the heartache it causes. As a matter of fact, the hardest loss was Rusty. He eventually developed cancer and before we even got the results back I made the appointment to put him down. Every time he opened his mouth he screamed out in pain (turns out it was the type of cancer the vet feared he might have. And the tumor was right in front of his ear. I couldn't tolerate him being in so much pain and had him put down, but that poor soul wouldn't go without a fight - right until the end. After the vet administered the euthanasia, Rusty fought it and the vet had to call for someone to bring another hypodermic. It was the worst pain out of any loss I had had with a dear family pet. It was so bad that my husband still, to this day, can't speak about it. And he only knew Rusty for about 7 years.
Oh SugarPlumFairy, that is just awful! My heart goes out to you and all of you who have lost pets. We lost our 'first' kitty, Dreamsicle, about three years ago to kidney failure. He was only 10. I noticed he had been losing weight, but we had just moved so I thought maybe it was stress. By the time we noticed he was really sick, I took him to the vet and he died three days later. (two days before Christmas, no less)
It is so hard to lose a part of your family! Non-pet people just don't understand how we love our furbabies!
Yall ALL the cats ARE georgous. I have cried
