Spray Paint Look On Icing? How To Achieve?

I'm experimenting with ways to get a colored effect over white on a cupcake wedding cake. I first tried painting stripes of color inside my decorating bag to get kind of a swirled white and color, but the bride wants more color, but not a solid color. So I thought maybe the look Ive seen done on some cakes that kind of looked like spray paint might work, although Im not sure...She likes the look of a large star tip to pipe on the icing, how would you get the sprayed look and would it mess up the icing? I really have no idea but Ive got awhile to experiment since they have a long engagement. Any ideas would be apreciated. TIA
I have a Barbie cupcake bouquet in my photos using the 1M tip and the Wilton spray cans of color (pink and purple) I'm not sure if this is the look you're going for, but it is super easy to do. If you have any questions, let me know. Good luck!
