After reading a ton of recipes from cc (and they always sound SOOOO good), I have decided to have my own cake tasting to try some of them out. So I decided to invite my friends and family over for a DAY OF CAKE!!! I'm having 20 people over on Sunday and I'm really excited about this. I have been wanting to do a cake tasting for months now and Sunday is finally my tasting!! ![]()
The only flavors I offer now are yellow, chocolate and marble cakes with BC, milk chocolate and strawberry fillings.
Pretty boring. So I want to spice things up and add more flavors.
These are the combinations I'm sure I'll be making:
-Red Velvet with Cream cheese frosting
-Banana cake with banana cream filling and Fluffernutter frosting
-Caramel cake with Brown sugar frosting
-White Almond Sour Cream Cake with raspberry mousse and BC frosting
-Chocolate cake with chocolate mint truffle filling and BC frosting
-Chocolate cake with cookies-n-cream filling and BC frosting
-Chocolate cake with Nutella filling and BC frosting
Now this is where I need your help. I'm HORRIBLE with actually thinking of what goes well together. I also want to make the following cakes and the following fillings, but I'm not sure what goes with what. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Cake flavors:
-Lemon cake
-French Vanilla Carmel cake
-Chocolate Amaretto Cream Cake
-Spice Cake
-Classic white or I might do a White Chocolate White cake
-could always do a yellow cake too
and the following fillings:
-Cheesecake Mousse
-Chocolate Bavarian Cream
-Whipped Chocolate Ganache
-Bavarian Cream
-Lemon
I also own the following Lorann oil flavors that I've yet to use (any suggestions will be greatly appreciated):
-Mint Chocolate Chip
-Amaretto
-Chocolate Hazelnut
-bubble gum
I really need help as I'm not good with knowing what is going to taste good together.
I'm still new to the whole baking thing. I think I enjoy the decorating side more so than the actual baking. But I want to make sure that everyone thinks the cakes taste as good as they look too!
As for the cake tasting goes, I will try to take pictures and document my process so I can fill you in if you ever decide to do one for yourselves. I already have my score sheets made up and I'm in the process of figuring out how I'll be doing all the details. I'm so excited to be able to add flavors to my short list!! ![]()
TIA
ooo can I come over??? I would love to have a tasting party, what a good idea. There are alot of flavors that you list and it would be a lot of work on your part, but boy I really would love to be a guest at that one!!
Afterthought: Since you have a hard time putting cake flavors with fillings (which, by the way, I have a hard time doing too), maybe what JoAnnB suggested would work for you?
One of the best tasting cakes ever is lemon cake, with lemon buttercream. Super light and refreshing taste. If you dont wanna lemon/lemon, try white with lemon buttercream. I think that lemon filling with lemon cake is just too much! My moms fav is coconut batter with white buttercream, and flake coconut on the outside.
You may want to scale down the amount of cake you are making, as far as so many choices. Two weeks ago, I ordered all of my sample wedding cakes, and only got 3, that was almost too much to try at a time, and we literally had a half inch slice of each one!! I could eat cake till I am blue in the face, but 3 was about my limit! Just like smelling perfume, too many of them, and you cant decide, because it all starts to run together.
