Actually, not that long ago, I was making a cake for the neighbors and I used the leftover batter for a small one for us. I had alot going on at that time and my head wasn't into cake, I wound up botching them both (and chucking them both). I was too tired and lazy to make frosting for my own cake so I used the store bought stuff, last little bit I had in the house. Yuck! Once you make a good BC you like, store bought is bleh.

Not too long ago, my 10-year-old son and I were shopping in Super Wal-Mart. He was giving me the usual spill about how he never gets cake anymore because I'm always making stupid cakes for someone else. And just one lil cake from Wal-Mart wouldn't hurt anything and I don't have to tell anyone I got it there. icon_cool.gif So..I let him pick out a small cake and he chose this strawberry cream pound cake. It looked like a pound cake with strawberry jello swirled in it. So when he got home and tried a piece, he said "Mom, this tastes kinda wierd..kind of like that medicine you gave me for my ear." So I tasted it and I swear it must have been old because it tasted JUST like Amoxcillin!!!! No kidding! icon_surprised.gif So now when he wants strawberry cake, he asks me to bake an Amoxil cake. Lol.

ok- I have to actually say that I LOVE the Jewel/Albertsons Strawberry whipped cream cake!!!
I know that it can't be real whipped cream because of how thick it is and how it holds up so well. I told my diabetic mother that it has to have drugs or something in it because I keep going back for more!!
What could it be that it keeps calling my name!!

Every now and then when I am in that store I actually hear.....

hey you, ya you, come over here... you know you want me.
(And I just know that it is not the butcher talking to me!!!! icon_wink.gif )

Its funny because my birthday is around the corner and they all tell me there might just be a party comming (the big 30)so be ready with a birthday cake.
Now, first of all, I am NOT making my own birthday cake!!!
I want the one that keeps calling my name!!! icon_biggrin.gif

Ok, Ok... yall talked me into it. here goes...Our local bakery(my arch enemy I might add) has a luch buffet. When you go there you get a piece of cake for free. Now I know good & well that it's just leftover b-day cake, etc.. that they didn't sell the day before sliced & wrapped up on a little plate, but I grabbed 2 slices for me & dh the other day. It was b-day cake that actually had a pink flower bleeding color onto the white icing!!! After I got back to work & kept walking by it, I went to the back & hid & ate the whole piece!!!!

I really don't buy many cakes - no one but me will eat them (even homemake - all my family wants is a sliver). Even on occasions - the fight is who has to take the rest of the cake home. Honestly, they don't taste bad - my family is totally warped. And I, of course, don't understand the concept of full - what's that. You are full when the cake is gone!! or not!!

I do, however, have the failed petite four cakes (from Easter) cut, filled, and crumb coated in the freezer. When I have to have something sweet, I take one (well, okay, five or six), pop a frozen BC rose on top and enjoy!

Actually, I do buy a cupcake for the doggie's birthday. Since Dexter is only 6 lbs., he has to split it with me and dh.

qtkay.... icon_lol.gificon_lol.gificon_lol.gificon_cry.gificon_lol.gificon_lol.gificon_lol.gif omg that butcher comment was it for me!!!!

partsgirl....hid in the corner and ate it!!! .....I could just picture someone "hunting" the cake walking past it several times!!

joanmary.....I HAD left over petit four cakes in my freezer cut filled and crumb coated too.....I failed at the whole petit four thing....so I then had cake bites!! ....like I said HAD....which is how I ended up at the grocery store!!!

My dh says to him...that's okay, my wife decorates cakes but I couldn't tell you the last time I've had any icon_rolleyes.gificon_lol.gificon_lol.gif

Okay folks, if the housekeeper's house doesn't get cleaned...
And the cakemaker's home has no cake...

Pity the wife of the gynecologist.

Ok I can't leave you two alone for 2 seconds. Just look at the trouble you have created. Poor Sharon has only had 14 post and has already joined the "twisted sisters" group and fallen into the dark side! LOL

Don't worry Sharon they have trapped several of us in their web!

OK here it is......

I just got in to the wide world of cake decorating and prior to this if it wasn't a choc. cake in a glass pyrex dish covered in tub icing I have never tasted it, let alone in some cases knew what it was. So I have been staring at a terimsu (?) cake at the grocery store just to taste it. I haven't bought it yet ....but I want to

Mine is Publix's cupcakes. Don't ask me why, 'cuz I don't know. I am not a huge cake eater even though I like to bake and decorate. But once in a while, and it has been a really long time, I will buy thier cupcakes and then I EAT THEM!! ALL OF THEM! But I do only buy the six count. icon_smile.gif

I went to publix (florida) and was talking to the cake decorator like i wanted a job, but was really just trying to figure out how much experience she had and how they make their icing.

They use Crisco and she had never decorated a cake in her life before they put her in that position......hhhhmmm.

I still love the local bakery though, i can't seem to match their buttercream. one day....

I must admit - I make cakes & cookies for for others - but when we need one here - I buy, unless it is for a birthday party and I want to impress people icon_biggrin.gif
