This is my first post. I love this site! A friend of mine has decided to accept a marriage proposal after 6 years of her boyfriend asking her and she wants to do it with a cake. I thought about a ball and chain cake or a rope that looks like it is tied in a knot. I would love to see some examples and hear some other ideas. Thank you in advance for your thoughts and suggestions.

Hiya Martig, and welcome to c.c.
Have you tried doing a search in the photo gallery for a "ball and chain" cake? I can't remember where I saw one but I do remember seeing one somewhere. (sheesh, getting old-timers "duh-sease" here).

If you search on 'engagement' in the gallery you will find the ball and chain. I like the idea of the rope for tying the knot.

It depends on the couples personality. Does she want something funny? Something cute, something pretty?

It could be as simple as a pretty heart shaped cake with flowers, etc. that says 'Guy's name, will you marry me?'.

A fbct that reverses the cake topper where the bride is dragging the groom down the aisle. You could do a picture of the groom dragging the bride down the aisle.

Go to Wilton.com and type in bowling cake, I believe I saw one there with a couple and a ball and chain getting married!

Are you sure a cake with a ball and chain theme would not cause him to think twice about that proposal? lol. It would me.

I would go with something a little more romantic, but masculine (which means chocolate) heart shaped or a square cake with a play on the "Yes" theme, and save the ball and chain for their first anniversary. icon_eek.gif

What about a cake that just says.... "YES".

Ewwww...how about a chocolate/mocha square cake with a chocolate box on top with a lid that opens or is half open with a tiny scroll or piece of paper like a chinese fortune cookie with a little funny one liner ending with "Yes, I will marry you." Now that is classy.

I am voting for the "yes" theme too.

I LOVE this idea...the box that opens with the message that says Yes, I will marry you is perfect! thumbs_up.gif

Glad I could help, it shoudl be a lot of fun.

There are many box pictures in the gallery, some of them quite nice. I like the chocolate covered fondant box cakes that look like they were wrapped in leather. I have read where you can take actual leather or vinyl (new of course) and press it into the fondant to get the impression.

For the small box on top, that is pretty easy, just chocolate spread out on parchment paper or saran wrap, cooled and cut to make the box. Seal the end with chocolate ganache or brown tinted royal icing. Now I want to create this...lol.

Thank you all so much for responding so quickly and for the great ideas! I did come up with an idea on my own, tell me what you think. Her boyfriend is a plumber, so I thought about making a plunger shaped cake that says "I am ready to take the plunge!". What do you think? She has a great since of humor, but I haven't shared this idea with her yet.

Cute idea--you could put wedding rings around the plunger handle maybe?

Hey I love the idea of putting wedding rings on the handle of the plunger. That is definitely what I am going to do. Now, I think I can handle making the plunger, but what is the best way of making the handle?[/quote]

Take a look at this cake from here on CC.
http://www.cakecentral.com/modules.php?name=coppermine&file=displayimage&meta=search&search=plunger&cat=0&pos=0&search=plunger

Ntertaynme used a dowel wrapped in fondant or you could just use thick dowel.

This is a very fitting idea. Be sure to post a picture when you get it done.

Cindy
