Hello All! I love this site and all of you who provide information and assistance. I made my first cake. I haven't had any decorating exp, except for info on CC!
Please critique this cake with pointers, ways to improve and any tips that I could learn from. I AM ALL FOR CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM! ![]()
This cake is a 11x15, FBCT. Please tell me what approp pricing range should be..
Cake decorating has become a recent passion of mine and I am praying that with Gods help I will improve & blossom in my passion!
Thanks!
Stacy
First off, WELCOME!!!
Cake looks great. I haven't sold many cakes myself, but in my area, I would probably charge around $35 for this cake. Good luck with the decorating. You're off to a Great start!! ![]()
Thanks for the replies... I was very critical with this cake. I was very dissappointed with the writing....and didn't get it as smooth as I wanted. I was so dissapp. that I said I'll sell it to the neighbor for $20... MY DH said
"NO way... $35 or $40"
I am so grateful for CC.. It was a dream come true. I always had or have questions and before finding CC, I didn't have anyone to turn to . ![]()

That is a really great cake! It looks smooth in the picture, if you are seeing something the rest of us are not, you might try smoothing with a fondant smoother pressed against a VIVA paper towel or use the Melvira method here on CC. Your FBCT looks GREAT! And because of the extra time that it takes to do one that detailed, I would probably add an extra $5-$10 on top of the cost of the cake. I am not familiar with an 11X15 size - I use a 9X13 for my sheet cakes. I would charge $35 for this cake. As far as writing goes, it just takes LOTS and LOTS of practice. I cheat and use a kopykake projector for mine, but you could always use Word on your computer to find a good font and size and print it out and trace over it with either chocolate or royal icing and pick it up carefully (after it has dried well) and place it on your cake. Wilton also has letter presses, but you don't have many options for different styles of writing with that. But you did a wonderful job on your first cake! You should be very proud and not at all disappointed!
Kerri,
Thanks so much for that! I never really thought about using word, but it's an excellent idea.
Thanks so much again!

Your cake looks really cool. You FBCT is great.
I would say for the writing part, just like kerririchards suggested, practice practice practice. I also use word, get the size/look I want and then practice it on the bottom of the pan by taping the paper then a wax paper on top so you get used to having your arm in the air! It really helps with the perspective.
Also if you can take some classes, there is no substitute for hands on learning from a "pro". I learn a lot on this site and I love it. I took a class on monday and I was armed with a tonne of questions, the teacher whom I have taken classes from before kept on looking at me each time he was bringing up something because I always had a few questions about things I have read and he showed us how to or explained more. It was great. When you take a class the teacher can correct your posture and angle and what not and it really helps.
Welcome to your new addiction.
Good Luck.
Great job on your cake, you bunny is so cute! And wow is your writing nice=) Jen
i think it looks good. some of your letters are uppercase and some are lowercase, so i would be more careful there, and just keep practicing writing. i used to have trouble curving letters to go around a round cake, so i wrote on a cardboard and practiced, practiced, practiced. it really helped with my writing.
Thanks for all who replied and critiqued! I really appreciate it and will keep practicing![]()
