Ok, so I am going to try to make my first little whimisical tilted cake today, and I was reading the tutorial on this site...now I have a question??? It shows that you set the cake board (the same size as the layer that will be sitting on top of the first cake) on top and then cut down into the first layer vertically making a "hole" for the second layer to sit in. I get that part, but what I want to know is how in the world do you "scoop" out the rest of the cake in the middle? Isn't it almost impossible to get the rest out to create that "hole" without completely tearing up the cake? I'm confused...how is this accomplished?? Thanks so much!! icon_smile.gif

If you cut down one whole cake layer, it should come out pretty easily. Just don't scoop past the filling. HTH!

Make sure to freeze your cake before carving it in the middle. This will keep it tight and less crumbly. Hope this helps.

chill the cake and use a sharp knife to cut around the cake circle for the next layer up then shave the cake down or start scooping the center out. if you cut around the circle then the cake shouldn't tear past the cut. it is also less likely to crumble if it's chilled. Good Luck!

Thanks for the replies, I was hoping that it would be way more cut and dry than it acually is! icon_eek.gif
