This weekend I'll be making a tres leche cake for my sons preschool family night in which they are celebrating "World of Diversity". My son was born in Guatemala and I absolutely LOVE tres leche so a perfect match!! However, I'm not crazy about how homemade whipped cream topping comes out, just a little too bland for me.

Could I use Cool Whip or does someone have a much sweeter recipe to use? Since kids will be eating this too I don't know that they will like a Merengue topping.

Thanks

When I make whipped cream, I use a lot of sugar!!! Here is what I do; 1 1/2 cup whipping cream, 1 teaspoon vanilla, and 1 cup granulated sugar. When I first tasted it, it seemed grainy from the sugar, so I beat it a little longer which helped, and it seemed to go away as it sat. My kids loved this whipped cream (so did I)!!! hth

didavista ~ how long would you say you beat the sugar in? I'll give your recipe a try as the one I tried before just wasn't sweet enough.

I put my bowl and beaters in the freezer beforehand (about 1/2 hour), then I beat it until I got peaks. Sorry I can't give you a time frame, but you will know, that was my first time too and it was really good. Just don't over beat and get butter, lol!

I don't use whipped cream for my 3 leches cake. I use a whipped frosting that I make by cooking corn starch/milk and then adding to sugar/butter/shortening. Same basic ingredients as butter cream but put together in a different way:
