I just made the large book cake that takes 2 mixes. I used Duncan Hines and made one side devil's food and the other side yellow.

Neither side rose up to the top of the pan and the chocolate side is lower than the yellow side.

Obviously I need to rebake this cake asap but I need help!!!

I have another devil's food mix and 2 more yellow mixes. I need to make the pan fuller so they rise all the way to the top of the pan. That way, if they rise unevenly I can just level them the same.

Sooo......can I add something to each mix to make it rise more or can I add something to the batter to make it go further??? I would say the cake came up almost to the top of the pan on the yellow and only about 3/4 up on the chocolate side.

Can I make all 3 mixes and add some of the extra yellow one to both the yellow side (obviously no problem) as well as the chocolate side (would that be a problem?) Mixing the yellow into the chocolate? Would it still stay chocolate enough?

HELP!!!!!!!!!!

Try the cake extender recipe. I believe it's in the recipe forum.

what about the cake extender recipe on this site? I haven't tried it but I have heard great reviews of it. It is in the recipe section.

Auzzi From the Wilton Site's Extendacake Pound Cake
1 pkg of any kind of cake mix to which you add all of the ingredients called for on the box
In addition:
1 cup all-purpose flour
3/4 cup sugar
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 cup Crisco oil - she substitutes 1/2 cup softened butter instead and so did I - wonderful!
2/3 cup water
I beat the butter, then added all of the ingredients the cake mix called for and then all of the other ingredients. Then I blended on low for 1 minute, then 2 minutes on medium, scraping the bowl down. Gnerally, cook at 325F for the larger cakes, 350 for smaller and you will need to add baking time, perhaps about 10-15 minutes to the times given on the cake mix box. I checked ever 5 minutes or so over the cake mix times.
This will give you about 6 1/2 cups of batter whereas a normal mix is about 4-5 cups.
Hope that helps.

In my experience, yellow cake always rises higher than chocolate cake. So I would make the pan 2/3 yellow and 1/3 chocolate if possible. Good luck

Okay, thanks guys (and squirrels)! thumbs_up.gif

My second cake is now in the oven baking away at 325 degrees using Auzzi's extender recipe in both cake mixes. Now I only have to hope it doesn't go over the top and drip all over my oven! Wish me luck!
