Hi everyone, this is my first post so be gentle.

I've got a cake to do this week and I'm stuck for ideas - as usual the person has left the design up to me and informed me the recipient is a goth and goes kickboxing. They want a baileys flavoured spong cake - I was thinking of putting some black colouring paste in the batter to make it black with a red buttercream filling? would this look ok? and then do a kickboxer on top?

any ideas?

Hopefully the black won't affect the taste. Bailey's sponge cake sounds delicious though. I think goth cakes have to be fun to make. The concept you came up with sounds great!!!

you could also do black and white vertical stripes of different widths with fondant on the sides

how about duffygirl's idea with a pair of satin kickboxing shorts laid on top (red of course) This would be fairly easy with red fondant and lots of lustre dust! You could put the birthday girl/boy's name or whatever message you wanted across the waistband. Sounds like a fun cake! make sure you post a pic!

I don't think it would turn out black. if it were me, I'd bake the cake without adding any coloring to the batter.

Make the kickboxer a skeleton or something to keep the gothic theme within.

what about red velvet cake with white buttercream filling and some raspberry preserves? too much black is not always a good thing (even to a goth!!!)
