hi guys, I am making a puppy cake for a friend and i have bought some fondant (after the disaster of making my own last time) and i want to make a big black nose.
I'm just not sure how to go about it...
would it be better to knead the colour into the icing or would it be easier to just paint it black?
If i wanted to get it shiny how would i go about that?

Once again i have left my run too late and the cake is for wednesday ( i always do this!)

Any help would be appreciated
thanks!

mix in or paint -- either will get color

but--if do both will get blackest black.

fondant hard to get a true black

and painting it can always miss a spot.

and for gloss

after painted fondant has dried -- a bit of piping gel will add the wet nose look.

(could even try adding black to the gel)

You could always use rolled buttercream instead! It has a shiny appearance that would look great! I used it for my puppy's nose and I think it looks wet!

I used black mmf that I made using dark cocoa in it. It is easy to get black with it, but I have found it sort of hard to get right. The first time I did it accidentally and it was great, the times I have tried to make it on purpose I have had a little trouble with the consistency. But to make it shiny I just rubbed a little of the non stick cooking spray on it.

Wilton sells some black. If it is just for a few features and you are not going to eat it, it might work. You can also purchase some other brands precolored like satin ice.

I used butter cream and airbrushed it black. Air brush gives off a nice shiny color on any icing.
