Well I have finally finished the cake with my first fondant animals. icon_biggrin.gif It was a long weekend because this was only one of the cakes I did for the party. It was for my niece and nephew so I did a little girl's cake to go with this one. With all of my little boys the only time I could work on them was at night so I haven't gotten much sleep. icon_cry.gif It was really worth it though when I saw the look on my niece and nephew's faces. Again I want to thank everyone here for giving me the knowledge and inspiration to do this. I have never taken any classes and I have learned everthing from all of you. I was very happy with the cake except that after it sat overnight the top icing cracked. I think maybe the MMF was to heavy. Has anyone else had this problem? Thank!
LL

I love it. it's perfect and so is your niece's cake.

I've never used MMF. But I love the look. I'm going to try a practice cake this week I think. Was it hard modeling with it? Any tips are welcome!

Thanks everyone for all the nice comments. Looking back on my first few cakes I never thought I would get to the point where I was actually proud of a cake I have done. I made some real stinkers. This site has really made that possible. The animals weren't as hard as I thought they would be. It really helped having my boys toys to look at. It took me an hour to do each of the big animals. I hope that I will get faster the more I do. The only tip that I have is, if you soften the MMF in the microwave to make it easier to work with or tint it, make sure that it isn't to hot. The first part that I did, I took it out and started to knead it and molten MMF poured out of the center and covered my hand. I had to rush to the sink and run water over it just to get it off my hand and wow did it burn. I always seem to injure myself with every cake I do. I can't blame it on the cakes though, I am very accident prone.lol

I love the way this cake came out. The fence around the cake is a great touch. My husband came by and said, "wow, that's really cool!"
