Hey how much would you charge for this cake it's a 12" fruit cake with marzipan and fondant. I know it's pretty simple but that's all he wanted.

Ask Bonjovibabe - she would know more about pricing fruitcakes than we here in the US would.

I would charge $50-$60.

I don't really know what a fruit cake entails though.

I made a 10" round tuxedo cake yesterday and charged $50.....I guess you should charge more then.

I think you'd spend more than that on ingredients alone. Ican't imagine ANY Cake that you can make for $20 and break even. I'm getting more and more appalled at how cheaply people price these things.

A 12" cake will serve about 40 people.. at 2$ a serving that'd be 80$. Add the fondant and all the premium ingredients.. and I'd charge 3$ a serving. That's 120$. It's up to you, but I wouldn't charge less than 80$

Well, thank you! Personally, a 12in round rich fruitcake from me covered in marzipan and fondant - $135!!! But then mine are made at least 6 weeks ahead, fruit soaked in a cup of brandy for 2 days before making the cake and then 'fed' with at least 2 more cups of brandy during the maturing period lol! If yours doesn't contain the outrageous amounts of alcohol that mine do, then I'd say $100 is fair - marzipan and fondant alone aren't cheap! There is a fairly plainly decorated square fruitcake in my gallery (has a lion school emblem in the middle), and I charged $165 for that. Hope that helps!

Sorry, I forgot to say that I don't think you've added up all your ingredients - $20 for what's required for a 12in fruitcake seems very cheap to me - are you sure?! Making a great quality moist fruitcake (which I'm sure yours is!), is an expensive, skilled thing to do - make sure you charge for it hun thumbs_up.gif !

^^^ thanks for your help. my cakes are left for 5 days so don't get as much maturing but the fruit is soaked for 3-4 months and the cake is covered with about 1-2 cups of rum when it's been baked and your right it does cost way more that $20 for the decorations and alcohol never mind the cake! I think about $120 should cover costs and work. thanks for all your help everyone

Great cake!!! What I do is multiply my cost, make sure you include everything (even a small % of your electric bill) and multiply by 4. This gives you a pretty accurate price range. IMHO.

I made fruicakes for Christmas and spent about $80 (ingredients only) and made 2 - 12" rounds and 1 - 8" round. And I did not use marzipan, I only used fondant to cover. HTH

Wow.......I feel horrible for the prices I suggested. I had no idea that fruit cake was that much work. I've never seen a one before.
