Ok..this is just a practice cake for a 50th i have coming up in june. I DH was looking for some cake to eat so i thought i'd do a practice cake.

I've been practicing making chocolate roses these are the first ones i made some are broken but that ok for this practice. Some have gold painted on the edges of the petals.

I was wanting to know what you think. I was thinking that the gold on the roses and leaves are to much and that the scroll work is to thick. Would it look ok with leaves all around the border all white with just a few gold ones? The cake will be a 3 tiered. Should i do all the tiers the same way? The bottom 2 will be stacked and the top on pillars.

Thanks for the help!
LL

ok...going totally gooey sentimental here ---

and a different tack would be even more gold!

as in 50 golden roses (white centers w/ golden other petals) ---

a rose for every golden year!

on white cakes w/ white scrolls and leaves.

Thanks for the feed back.. So Doug do you think i should use white fondant? I purposely made the fondant on that cake darker because of the cake topper..i was worried about it looking to "dirty" with the white fondant.( the topper)
I like the idea if 50 roses!
Do you thing the scrolling is to thick? I used a #5 maybe a #3 would be better?

ivory (to match topper) and gold would work just as well.

tho' if there are enough roses around the topper -- sort of like it's in the middle of a bed of them -- most won't notice it's on the ivory side -- will look more golden to match the golden roses, esp. if make roses with ivory centers.

a slightly smaller tip would look nicer if doing gold scrolls, but with tone on tone (ivory or white) the larger tip may be ok -- give it a try with both, one on one side of cake and compare.

I too like dougs idea of 50 roses (i think you should enlist him to help) hehehehe anyways i personally like the thick scrolls especially if your going to do white on white they will be more noticable but wont take away from your beautiful roses!

The cake is beautiful. I love the scroll work. Can you get a closer picture of the cake? I can't see any of the details.

Thanks for all the input! I might have a hard time fitting 50 roses on!..lol...i'll try a few things different with the next practice cake. DH loves those. This cake is Toba's yellow cake. It's delish!
i'm going to try her chocolate cake next. I learnt how to do the roses from her book as well. Can you tell i love her book!

You can fit 50 easy (although time consuming) by varying the sizes and placing extras as cascade. Doug is awesome! DOUG FOR PRESIDENT!!!! icon_lol.gif

I was going to suggest the same thing. Cupcakemom, you beat me to it. Yes, varied sizes would not only help make all the roses fit, but would also add some interest and look nicer. Not all the roses need to be in full bloom either. Some could be buds; just a few here and there.

I second Doug's nomination!! icon_wink.gif
