can anyone tell me what wilton classes consist of? I would like to take all 3 of them but kinda want to know what i will learn.. Im taking 1 and 2 at the same time.. I know the lady who is teaching it and she told me 1 is very basic and that i could skip it cause of my back round in culinary.. but i want the certificate so im taking it anyways... what should i take to the class? and what types of utensils do i need? should i buy the kit? or make my own.. i have a lot of bags and tips and cake stand and that stuff at home already...
you guys are so great!!

btw i started teaching Pulled sugar classes at a Michaels Craft STore and I love it. Teaching is so much fun. Its great when people are proud of their work and want to know more!!!! Im so glad a friend asked me to do these!!
you get a certificate for it too? i didn't know that! sorry, i haven't taken them yet but i definetely plan to, thanks for asking this question! my mom wants to take it and so does her friend... i can't wait till we get a hobby lobby... they just had a class in the beginning of february and we missed it... i didn't try making my first cake till march... now i won't have time to take it because of the wedding coming up although i could really use some knowledge on this stuff before then ![]()
yeah i guess you get a certificate with every level... When i signed up I paid 12.50 us money for the first 4 classes...and when i signed up you can bring a friend for free... id on't know if thats only here where i am? Good luck on the wedding cake.. im contemplating my wedding.. we're gonna fly 900 miles and i dunno if i feel comfortable making a cake in someone elses kitchen!!!!
Depending on the way DH is used... DH can mean dear husband or Duncan Hines cake mixes.
I just got my certificate for Wilton I tonight. Itook my classes at AC Moore's. It cost $15.00 for the first class and $20.00 there after. Classes are once a week.
In class one we learned the different consistancy of buttercream icing, stars, shells, drop flowers, roses, leaves, outlines, writing, and the sweet pea.
I had little knowledge of these things so it was worth the money and sooo much fun.
I signed up for class II tonight. In it is color flow, royal icing, daisy, carnation, apple blossom, pansy, easter lilly, and basket weave. I can't wait!!!
As for buying the kits--I didn't I already had the stuff at home so I just put it together myself.
Great Hubby tip--My husband saw me getting everything together for class and said "What you need is a tackle box." It worked great --compartments for couplers, icing colors, ect... and enough room in the bottom to carry in all my icing to use in class. Also CHEAP!! If you aren't going to get the kits with a Wilton box I really recommend it.
I took my classes at Michael's. They usually offer a discount of some kind if you take each course. Yes, you get a certificate for each course you finish. If you already have a lot of tips & cake gadgets you might not need to buy the Course kits. Just go to the store where you are going to take the classes & look at the Course kits. It will say on the back what is inside. Then you will know what you will need. Good luck with the classes~
so 15 for the first class.. or the first set of 4 classes?? lol sorryh im confused...
i have alot of stuff already from working in bakeries and from the shop i own now.. )(its not a bakery lol its a butcher shop)
do i make buttercream and take it with me>>
what should i take to the first class
Just yourself..... that's all you'll need for the 1st class~
First class--ask first but mine was pen and paper
after that it was a cake and all the icing to do the decorating.
Each of my Wilton courses are 4 classes in each course. and you are paying for the course not the individual classes.
I guess I am trying to say I paid $15.00 for 4 nights
Just notes & stuff. You also learn some about the consistency of icing, I think you learn how to make a bag out of a parchment triangle. Can't remember. The first course was easier BUT you had to have a cake & icing EVERY week. That made it more hectic! The 2nd course was easier because you just did a cake the last night & made royal icing flowers the other nights. The 3rd course you do fondant & learn how to tier a cake. That sums it up~ BE READY TO SPEND A LOT OF MONEY FOR SUPPLIES unless you already have a lot of stuff. I didn't so I spent too much money. Good luck~
