Ok - so I have decided that I want to try to start baking cakes as a hobby/business. I wanted to get some business cards printed up (to start, just some of those free ones that you can order online)

My full name is Mindi Cherry. I was either thinking "Cakes by Mindi" (boring, but gets the point across) or "CherryCakes" (more "catchy", but sounds kind of "porno-y" to me)

Any suggestions? THanks!

That's the same place my sister uses. I was going to do cards too but then I got scared because I thought if I get cards made up then that would mean I was in the business & I would be the one to get caught & get a fine............ or something worse someone would turn me in.

Hey Mindy,
I hate to be a downer, but if you don't have a liscense handing out cards can bring the helth Dept. to you door. I'm not sure what the rules are where you live, but here it's pretty strict. This has been a sore subject on several boards....wheather handing out cards is really advertising. Hate to be a splash of cold water, but I'm just really careful about that kind of thing.
oh, I think Cherry cakes is cute!

Oh yea, Mindi Cherrycakes, I've seen that movie. icon_smile.gif opps, icon_eek.gif err, icon_redface.gifthumbs_up.gif

To me Cherrycakes sounds like thats all you sell. How about Mindi's Cakes or Cherry's Cakes. Or, how about: The Mindi Cherry Cake Company? I like the last one.

I like Cherry Cakes...you could have a cute logo of a beautiful cake with a cherry on top and the stem could go up to spell the name. I think if you had some kind of slogan to go along with it...it would clue people into the fact that you make other cakes too. I was curious and googled it just to see if it was taken...I didn't see anything except this cute old sign...

Maybe Cherry's Sweets or Mindi's Sweets instead of just being the cakes.

Mindi's Sweet Cakes!

MinCher Sweet Cakes (pronounced mine-Cher)!

I do intend to call our local board of health to see what the restrictions are. I cannot have an additional kitchen or anything like that, as I DO know for a fact that our homeowner's association forbids any major home modifications for the purpose of a home business (you can't turn your garage into another room, for example)

As far as handing out the cards....I was thinking more of just having them on hand for parties that I attend where I have made a cake. I am making a cake for 80 people (aaacckk!) for my neighbor's daughter's birthday party in mid-June (that I will also attend). When Denise tells everyone who made the cake (as I just KNOW she will), it would be nice to just have the card on hand to give to anyone who is "impressed" enough to want one for themselves (I am making a pink and yellow castle cake.

I like Cakes by Cherry. Cherry is a cute name, and I agree, you could really come up with a cool logo for that one. =) Cakes by Mindi is cute too, but the logo would be a little more difficult on that one!

(Pick the names that you like and start a poll...LOL See which ones attract the most attention from the board.)
