My son will be turning 9 next month. He really enjoys science stuff. Got some good ideas from Family Fun site. But the cake idea they suggested wasn't so great. Any ideas for a science themed Birthday cake??? I'm just stumped on this one!

how about a beaker shaped cake? If you google it, you will get image results that show a glass container with a wide bottom and narrow top. That's the first thing that popped into my mind when I thought of science. That, and a microscope...

How about a volcano with lava? Maybe you could use the wondermold and shape it for the volcano part?

How about the solar system made with the ball pans? The first thing that came to me when I read it was a microscope...not sure how you'd do it, but it would be cool! At this moment, I think....what would Duff do? haha

Last year, my son had a science birthday, and I made him a volcano cake. I used the Wonder mold pan, and coloured the batter to make it look like lava. I put a little cup in the top and iced around it, and when we served it, I put some warm water and a little dry ice in the cup to make it "smoke". I put oreo crumbs and chocolate rocks around the bottom, and striped the "lava" coming down the sides. We added sparklers around the top for extra effect.

Edit - couldn't get attaching a photo to work, but if you look in my photos, you will see my volcano.

Well, I went to see what the FAmily Fun cake was...volcano. So, I looked around and found a beaker cake on coolest birthday cakes. Did you check that site out? If not, go there and search 'science'. It was pretty cute. I'd post a link or pic of it if I could figure out how. maybe someday I'll figure out this forum business. icon_confused.gif

I can't think of anything else, other than the solar system. That would be pretty cool too, but then not as science-y?

Thanks for all of your ideas! I went to the Steve Spangler site and my son just LOVES it! I will have to go check out the other site about the beaker cake. I'll keep you posted on how things go! Thanks again!
