My first cake has truly been a huge learning experience for me. I have learned that yes you really do need to crumb coat...yes it is easier to cut a cake out of the fridge/freezer...i now realize why you wait to stack a tiered cake when you get there... because so matter how careful you are something will shift and your icing will crack even if its just next door lol and you use dowel rods. the greatest thing i have learned however is that wonderful feeling of accomplishment i got when everything was said and done and people were coming up and asking who i used to do the cake...and knew that i all of my hard work and practice had paid off!

I agree. It is such a wonderful feeling when you are done and everyone gets to admire your work. Every time I make a cake, it seems like I learn something new!!! I can't tell you how much I have learned in the last few weeks on this site.

Learning the crumb coat trick was invaluable for me as well. Keep going and may we never stop learning about cake and cookie decorating. It is very rewarding to make big smiles come to others faces! icon_smile.gif

Your first cake, the one in your album, you did a great job on and I love the colors! Accidental colors or not, they came out perfectly!

On this site, you don't ever stop learning. I've been doing this for 25 years and I swear, I've learned more in the past year on this site than I have in the first 24 years! It is truly a great support system we have here!

kyliesmom you learned a lot on your first cake, it took me several to learn most of what you learned in just one!

You did great. Now you just need more practice and imagine with the help of your new friends on CC how much more you will learn even before your next cake.

Good Luck

Wow - that is your first cake? Amazing! You do really great work. I can't wait to see more.

I think I have a phobia of cake stacking...I keep trying other "new" techniques instead of trying to stack something.
