I can't keep them around long enough to do them!! How do you people do it! I am afraid to buy 2 packages for fear my kids and I will go thru both. With 6 weeks left in my pregnancy I can't afford to gain another "oreo" pound. Life is sooo tough icon_cry.gif

Sorry if this seems like a dumb question, but what does "DH" stand for?

I finally tried them today for the first time and half the bag was eaten by my kids (4 girls) and DH. Then after I made them I had them setting one the wax paper and every time I'd go back to check there would be another empty space where I had one. There's no way I could possibly try this for profit. It's hard enough making cakes and cookies but then chocolate covering something...................forget it.

That will be the hard part here too. Between myself, dh & 3 kids I will have to work fast to get them covered before their eaten lol.

So funny!!!

I made these for the first time for Easter to take to family gatherings and had them out on wax paper too. I walked in the kitchen and noticed some missing oreos..... icon_surprised.gif

It wasn't too hard to spot the culprit.... detective.gif I walked in the livingroom to see my 3 year old trying to act normal by watching tv...but the huge chocolate ring around her mouth gave her away!!!

Needless to say, these were a definite hit with everyone!

So...what is everyones favorite chocolate for them? Does you add anything to soften up the chocolate a bit? I find they are a bit hard!

I used to hide candy or goodies in the produce section of my fridge to keep the kids out. My kids would NEVER look there. thumbs_up.gif

The Baker's chocolate disks are my favorite! They have them in the baking isle at all of the grocery stores I go to. They might be a little too soft, but taste the best. I also bought chocolate for almond bark. It is a huge solid bar of chocolate, and it is for melting. It was pretty good and not too hard or too soft. It comes in white chocolate also. I found it at supertarget on sale for $1.48 for 20 ounces!! Can you believe that! now that I have tasted it, I am going to go buy a bunch more. It is sold where the choc. chips are sold.

Just an idea -

You can add toppings to the oreos before they dry - M&Ms, coconut shavings, peanut butter chips, drizzle a contrasting color chocolate on them for the look of it, add some sprinkles...they're more calories but everything in moderation, right?

I use the Dark Chocolate candy coatings and then drizzle with white chocolate, they are yummy. My kids love them, so we keep them in the freezer. When they are in the freezer, we kind of forget about them. My kids love them.

I like to buy chunks of nestle's chocolate from a local grocery store and melt it down. I also add a little crisco to it.

i use molds to make mine, i add a bit of crisco or even better paramount crystals. Super smooth chocolate and easy to dip and work with. I do use molds for mind which is also easier for me. I place them in the freezer and my oldest son (the only who eats them) doesn't even notice. They are a BIG hit at work, everyone seem to love them. I can't help you giving you suggestions to stay away, i love oreos too. I am able to hide and keep the cookies from my kids. I buy them the cheaper store brand for them and have enough of both.
But i think i'm at the point that i can't eat anymore of my sweets.

I used the white chocolate bark that Marcy11 is talking about and they set up a lot quicker and were easy to bite through.. I'm going to try the chocolate one next time. I had done the hershey's milk chocolate chips and added some vegetable oil but really didn't like the taste or how hard it got.

I couldn't believe how inexpensive the bark was either............and you get a lot of it.

Thanks all! I will try the bark and see how everyone likes it. I have so many different kinds of chocolate in the house right now that one more won't hurt!

I have made the chocolate oreos in the molds and absolutely love 'em. I also purchased some boxes that were supposed to be for chocolate oreos and I think dipped oreos would fit in it. However, the molded oreos are slightly too large to fit in the packaging.

Does anyone have suggestions for packaging these?

I tried the chocolate bark today on the oreos and strawberries and I'm on a chocolate high. They were delicious...........the strawberries were absolutely sinful. It sets up so fast.
