I've been asked to make some cupcakes to serve for an event to raise money for breast cancer research. I'm making mini-cupcakes. I'm just wondering if anyone has any cool icing techniques? (pictures would be great! I'm a visual person). I want a few different ones as I'll be making a ton of these things and I don't want them all to look the same. I'm going to give the swirl a try (any idea what tip to use for mini-cupcakes) and I'd like some other ideas if anyone's willing to share. Thanks so much.

you can dip some in thinned frosting or ganache. Once the thinned frosting is on you can decorate with sprinkles etc.

Why not put little pink ribbons on each?

I just made some mini cupcakes for my 2 year's birthday party at school. I used a 4B tip and put a double layer of swirl on the cupcake and before the icing crusted, I put sprinkles on them. I would do them in shades of pink - since it is for a breast cancer fundraiser.

Oh you got me going! I also would like to find some ideas.

If you feel like getting started now, make some flowers in BC on little squares of wax paper. Freeze them or air dry and put them on cupcakes.

If you can still find jelly beans, you could do these ... I'd skip the handle and the ones on the edges, just make a little nest;

I have this image a client sent me from online from Sprinkles bakery.
The pink breat cancer ribbon is so sweet and simple. From the Chatelaine video (that the Dustbunny gave the link to, thanks! icon_wink.gif ) here's the final cupcakes all on a tower. (PM me and I'll look up the tips I used for them.):

Hey - if you look in my galleries, I've got tons of cupcakes done - most for breast cancer research fundraising. I'm doing the 3 Day walk this fall and have to raise $2200 to participate, so I'm baking all the time! (Of the $1700 I've raised so far, about $1150 is from baking and sewing!)

I have done pink ribbons, pink roses, pink "violets", pink daisies, pink butterflies, etc. I've used gumpaste, fondant, royal and buttercream flowers/figures, as well as buttercream, fondant and italian meringue icings. Really, anything you want to do can be done - the ribbons are super, super easy - use a ruler, cut a straight line, cut the ribbon into lengths, form and leave to dry. Don't pop 'em on the cupcakes until the last minute though or they may droop if not fully, fully dry.

Best wishes and thanks for doing this for a great cause!

Christy

Yes, I will be putting ribbons on most of them and I'll be cutting out letters from fondant and putting them on some to say "Welcome to..." or whatever. I just don't want to have boring iced cupcakes. I want them to look cool with a swirl or something like this picture I found online (I hope this will attach). Any other ideas?

I like that double blob icing on those cupcakes you just posted.

The fondant ribbon is a great idea. I like that.

Hello:

You have some beautiful cupcakes displayed on the thread "Icing cupcakes....cool techniques? by Acgref. I would love to start learning to decorate cupcakes, would you mind telling me the tips that you used to decorate the cupcakes that you have pictured in the thread. Also, what brand of food coloring do you use? Do you used buttercream icing? What should I use to ice the cupcakes? THANK YOU!!!!

I bought this great book! Crazy about Cupcakes by Krystina Castella. I bought it at AC Moore $17.95. It shows you all kinds of ideas to decorate and has lots of receipes for cakes and fillings.
