Hi EVERYONE,
I have a couple questions. I made a 3 layer 9 in. and 2 layer 6 in. I stacked them for babyshower that is tomorrow morning. I have them sitting on my counter assembled. Will this be ok to leave overnight and I am going to transport it since the shower is not far from the house. I just want to make sure that it won't sink when I wake up and I didn't dowel it. I figured the 6in. isn't that heavey but I am so freaking new and I don't want to wake to a messed up cake because I will have no time to bake another since shower is at 11 in the morning. ~Melissa

Good thinking but I personally can't help you on this one. I always dowel my cakes no matter what the size. I'm kinda scared that it might sink though... sitting like that overnight and all. Who knows, maybe someone else that has done this before can help both of us out for future references. icon_smile.gif

i honestly don't know, but if I were you... I would at least keep them separate overnight and just put them together tomorrow, or dowel them tonight. I wouldn't want to take a risk with it, even if it MIGHT be alright.

I'm with the others...I would dowel. Even if you have already decorated it, you can always put a dowel rod down the middle of both cakes to keep the top layer from sliding off on the way to the baby shower. It's happened to me icon_cry.gif

You are worried about them sinking overnight but not worried about them sinking after you deliver them?

If in doubt always dowel so there is something to support the cake(s) on top. Also you need more than just a center dowel. This does not support the weight of the cakes on top.

use largest off-set spatulas you have...gently slip between layers. should be able to lift off top cake.

will damage frosting one top of bottom cake some, but should be repairable and only slightly damage very bottom of top cake's basketweave. can try to repair or hide it w/ flowers.

I have stacked those with BC frosting without dowels and have never had a problem. Now if you used fondant frosting then I can't help there. I have never used fondant. I fyou used BC and it's not on heavy then I think you will be just fine.

How long have you had it sitting on the counter? If it's been there for several hours and you don't see any problems by now I would think it would be fine.

I have never used dowels, plates, or anything for my cakes. The 4-layer cake I made recently had no problems sitting for two days in the fridge, so I would say it will be fine, but I'm not experienced like most people here.

I, personally, would never do a stacked cake without dowles.. It's always better to be safe than sorry even if it is only a 6". Straws work great for the smaller stacked cakes!!

Glad to hear that it all worked out well for you. icon_biggrin.gif I agree with Traci. In the future, I would dowel all future stacked cakes. If anything else, so you can get a good night's sleep, lol. icon_wink.gif
