I just bought this set from E-bay and I think I'm gonna love 'em. Just wondered if anyone else owns a set like this. I would like to know who the manufacturer is to purchase add'l plates and tubes. I figure I can probably get them cheaper that way. The closest I've found is a product called Crystal Splendor and the parts aren't interchangeable.

I own the Crystal Splendor Set and I just love it. Are you sure they are not interchangeable? Because they sell plates and tubes

Yes, I checked. They are definitely not interchangeable.

I can't wait to use them. Do use yours a lot?

If anyone uses them, do you charge a rental fee for usage? how much?

I don't use them as often as I'd like to. But I think my best cakes are the ones using tis set.

I don't ask for a rental fee. I just ask for a deposit that I give back when people bring my things.Usually the price of the plates and pillars, between $50 and 120 dlls. I do this with all my plates and pillars. Of course this means that I make the cake. I don't lend my stuff to other bakers.

Solecito- I looked at your pics. You have some beautiful cakes. The tiered stands do make such a beautiful presentation. I'm just beginning to do wedding cakes and am working on pricing. It seems like the stands will make it simpler, in that you don't have to stack the tiers. So I'm wondering if I should charge a little less for these cake vs a tiered cake. I've settled on a per serving price for wedding cakes. I thought if I do charge less, that then perhaps charging a rental fee would help improve my profit margin.

Do you charge the same for single layers displayed on your stands as you do for your tiered cakes?

I don't have these, but I have looked at them on Ebay. Are they sturdy?

They seem quite sturdy. I haven't used them yet...can't wait! I'm like a little kid when I get something new.

I own a 4 tier set that are all combined on a single base plate. I've used them twice for weddings. I have a picture of one of them in my file if anyone wants to take a look. I love them...they are so un-traditional and unusual. That's what I like about them. You can also fill the hollow tubes with different stuff to accent your theme. I used them again about a month ago, but I haven't uploaded that pic yet.

I got the same plates and tubes, only they came in an 7 tier set. I got them on this website

The plates and tubes are interchangeable. I used them on my first wedding cake and they work great!!

Wanda- The display in your gallery is beautiful! I love flowers on cakes. I hadnt thought about it until I looked at your pic, but it takes a lot of flowers when you put them on each cake.

Do you charge for use of your stand or do you just charge the same for these cakes as you would if you'd stacked them.

meldancer-I have the same set (7 tiers) from that seller. I wouldn't have thought to use them for sqare cakes. Good idea!

Thanks for your comments. I charge the same, because for me the only difference would be the dowel, I mean both models use cardboard bases on each layer, it's te same amount of icing, etc. Just though, another difference is this kind of stand are easier to set up at the party.

Another thing: how about a very complicated decoration that a customer ask for, just so you would give her a lower price b/c is on a stand?

Solecito-
That makes sense. I think I'm overthinking all this pricing stuff. I live in a small town with 1 bakery and a Wal-Mart that sells wedding cakes. I know I need to charge more than Wal-Mart. The bakery charges about the same as Wal-Mart. So I struggle w/charging $2.00/serving and had considered offering the use of this type of set up at a slightly less charge (just because it seems a little easier to deliver and set up for me).

Sorry it's taken so long to get back to you, fat-sissy. No, I don't charge for the use of the stands, but I do, however, get a deposit on them. I charge extra for the floral and for that particular cake, the florist charged me $75.00 and I put them together.

Good luck to you!
