I want to learn how to work with fondant... Where can I order it? What else should I order. I know how to make and bake a cake. I know how to frost with the viva paper towel. I ordered the tracing borders to learn to to borders, etc... now I want to work with fondant, gumpaste, - to sculpt... Where do I begin?

Thanks,
Michelle

I don't know if you have one near you, but I buy my fondant at Michaels. I was at Wal Mart yesterday and also say it there.

It is a good idea to buy one box of fondant so you can feel the texture and see how it manipulates. It is great to practice with. Howeverr, Wilton fondant doesn't taste very good. You can easily make your own either MMF or others work great, taste better and are much less expensive.

I buy the wilton stuff at walmart, just because it's handy, but I plan on ordering some Satin Ice off of the internet as soon as I can afford all that shipping money.

i usually make mmf or use wilton's fondant to cover cake boards and to make flowers and other decors that ptobably won't be eaten. i like to use satin ice, pettinice or chocopan to cover my cakes. they are more expensive than mmf but i find that the taste is worth the cost. i usually buy from beryl's or nicholas lodge..

Okay, I prefer to use FondX at the moment! It is a higher priced fondant but the texture is awesome! It is great to work with and you can refrigerate it and it will not get condensation on it at all!! It tastes great too! The best place to get it would be Pfiel & Holing because there prices are cheaper than the place that makes it in California and they're shipping should be better too. The other I highly recommend that I have used it Satin Ice. I have gotten mine from The Baker's Kitchen in Ohio and the shipping is not a bad price. Both fondants come in chocolate (which they both taste real close to a tootsie roll) and premade colors. If you are looking for a great tasting fondant that is nice to work with I would give either of those a try. Don't even try Wilton's! It is NASTY!! I have tried to make my own, and I know a lot of people on here have great success with it, but IMHO I found it to time consuming and really difficult. I was not happy with the outcome. For the extra money, it saves me the headache of making it myself and it is consistent.
HTH and if you have any other questions, PM me!
