For those of you whom said that you are hobby bakers that sell there cakes - like it's a part time job type of situation. Do you have the separate kitchen that is required (at least in tx it is). Also are you liscensed and have business name and everything that intails?
Basically I LOVE decorating cakes, but I know I don't have the talent yet to open my own bakery but I think I could sell cakes on the side type thing. Plus my children are still young (1 and 2 yrs old) I don't want to lose any time with them. So now I bake while they are sleeping and such.
advice please - thank you

I sell cakes out of my home kitchen. I do not advertise, my website has no prices. My business is all word of mouth. In PA it is illegal but the only way to build up the clientelle and have enough money to build a separate kitchen, is to start off this way, and hopefully save enough money and get busy enough to branch out. I also to make sure to claim all my income and deduct all my expenses on my taxes.

As long as you take the above steps, you should be fine. Just realize that what you are doing is illegal, and the more you put yourself out there, the more chance you will have of being caught, even though the chances are slim if your business is word of mouth.

Good luck!

Thank you

I'm such a goodie goody I'm SOOOOO scared of getting into trouble. But if you filed it on your taxes would they be proving to them that you are doing something illegal out of your home? How much were you bringing in before you started filing? How long have you been doing this out of your own kitchen?
