you can put it in the microwave for a few seconds also. But warning, if you touch the outside and it feels firm don't press harder to see if it was softer in the middle. Stupidly I done that and I came away with super hot MMF on my fingers. I now use a wooden spoon handle to test it.
When you first make your fondant use less powder sugar then the whole bag that it asks for. It's much easier to add the rest as you need it then to messing with water that makes my hands sticky or microwaves that burn the limbs of it. MHO
Just a hint
PLEASE PLEASE be careful handling MMF from the microwave. I zapped a small blob to work with, it SEEMED cool enough to handle, but when I put it in my hand and started kneading it, I found it was super hot inside. The dang stuff stuck to the palm of my hand and left me with a nickle size burn! OUCH! I couldn't get to the sink fast enough to wash the stuff off! Please be careful, everyone! ![]()
I made this for the first time last night. I usually use Pettinice fondant. I decided to make four small-medium batches because I read that it was so hard to work the color in after it's made. It's kind of funny because they all came out differently. One batch was sticky, one was dry, and one was perfect. The one that was perfect was the small batch. I got the recipe off the wilton site. 1 C mini marshmallows, 1 T water, and 1 1/2- 1 3/4 C sugar. I guess you can't just cut the regular recipe in half, which is what I tried at first and I couldn't get it to take all the sugar. But this small batch rolled out perfectly! I made cut out flowers and really liked the MMF.
