well i finished my first cake for class, the icing kinda went weird colors, i used the hot spatula tip to get the airbubbles out of the buttercream icing, andalso was told by my teacher that i could put water on it, to help with the bubbles, is that why the color changed a lil?

id love all of ur opinions on it, if u think i did well, what i could do better, anything u can think of plz icon_biggrin.gif

I think your cake looks wonderful! It is very neat, smooth and pretty!
The colours actually look great. Were they supposed to be different?
I do find that I have to mix my colours in fully or you will get a streaky effect, but I can't see that on your cake anyway.
I think you are off to a brilliant start, you should see my first cake, only it is soooo bad that i wud never post it icon_lol.gif

I think it looks great for a first cake! With practice, it looks like you will be very good at this.

You did a wonderful job on your cake. I really like the colors too. The only problem I can see in the photo is that maybe you didn't quite mix your color in really well for the color you used on the cake. I have that problem too sometimes and it causes lighter patches in the icing. I don't think the water should have had a affect on it.
It is barely noticeable though.

Keep up the great work. I think your rainbow and borders all turned out very well. You're doing great!!

It looks great!!! I alway have problems with the consistancy of the icing for stars because it needs to be pretty stiff to get defined stars, but you'll kill your hands if it's too stiff and they'll brek off. I thing on the "justyn" the icing could've been a bit stiffer (if that's even a word), but all together, it looks great!!!

The cake looks great. My teacher taught us to use hot water to smooth white icing and cold water to smooth colored icing. When you put hot water on colored icing is makes it patchy. Good luck in decorating. I'm a newbie also to decorating

I have had problems with my colors doing the same thing when I use water. It happens only on certain colors but I had it happen to me a few times so I just stopped using the water. I am pretty sure that is what caused the color to look like that.

ditto on the water streaking the icing!
