...I key in a website name into google, just to see if the site already exists, and it gives me a page that says 'this page is parked free, curtosey of godaddy.com'???? Does this site really exist or not?
I'm trying to set up a site for my business, but I'm having trouble using my name because I keep getting this page. http://www.sugarbelles.com/
How do I know if the domain name I want to use is really taken or not? Help ![]()

i searched on the godaddy.com website (it's a hosting website) to see what it means, and i found that to see if a domain name is taken, you search at the bottom of their homepage, and it says what like that is available. there's lots of names for you, but sugarbelles.com is taken. you could do a variation?
Go to www.godaddy.com and type in the name you want to know is available in the box that says, "Start your domain name search here."
I advise against trying to visit websites with "sugar" in the name because many of them lead to porn sites. Ugh. Do your searching at godaddy so you won't have unwanted images permanently seared into your brain.
JennT, you can contact godaddy and make a bid right now for it. I'll pay X amount if this person doesn't renew to get that domain. Essentially, it puts you first in line for it. I just snagged a domain I was waiting for because they people never bothered to renew. HTH!
Domains are MUCH cheaper through 1and1.com -- I have all 28 of mine through them (don't ask!!) and the service is great too. Their packages may or may not suit your needs but it's worth checking them out. (No, I don't get anything from them for recommending people, although I guess I could set up a link and get free months of hosting or something.)
I personally dislike GoDaddy intensely because they will NOT let go of domain names if you want to transfer them elsewhere (read: somewhere cheaper!)
ok so this is a little delayed but...
When I was looking to see if websites were for sale I used networksolutions.com
They told me all the endings that were available. So if .com wasn't available it told me if .biz .net etc... were available.
I am not sure about the others. This is the one my BF uses in his business and I haven't tried any others. Hope you get the one you want.
