I'm having a going away party for hubby before he leaves for his deployment... I'm at a loss for ideas!!! He's in the Navy and will be going to Florida first and then eventually to the middle east. icon_cry.gif The party is in two weeks. I was thinking of making a Navy ship, but I wanted to get some more ideas...

Anyone have any ideas???

Thanks!!

I love me some sailors! Do you know what ship he will be on? If I had been doing something for my daughter in the same situation, I might have done an aircraft carrier with "The Big Stick" (the ship's nickname) written on it....or something with a moose on it (the ship's mascot). Or, if he's in a squadron, his squadron emblem is always good. I tried not to be maudlin at those times and used a lot of "So Proud of You!" kinds of statements rather than the "goodbye" kinds of sentiments.

Or maybe a sheet cake with a map of the world and his imagined route piped in red. "Follow the dotted line right back home to me!"

Hope this helps!

There are a ton of great Navy cakes on here...Most of them are yours Tami....I save a lot of your photos since my father-in-law is a retired Navy Chief...My brother-in-law is in the Army (joined last summer). My Dad is a civilian for the Air Force. My two older brothers are both in the Air Force. I wish I could have been in your situation a few weeks ago. One of my brothers was sent to Kuwait and I wasn't told of his leaving so I didn't get to say good-bye. There is a really cute idea I saw on here of a Navy sailor done with the ball pan (head) wondermold (body) and a small cake for the legs and feet. It would be great with the correct uniform, stripes, and honors on it. Something out of the norm of just a sheet cake or a flag....HTH....Thanks to your hubby and my heart goes out to you while he is away.
