Cake decorating shops or even the drugist - it's commonly used for sore throats!
Our Michael's carries the Wilton brand of glycerine.
I did an MMF cake a couple weeks ago - and I had to use a lot of glycerin and shortening to get it elastic enough to roll out enough for the 14 inch round cake. But I didn't try just using straight glycerine, so if that doesn't work alone, try using some shortening also.
It is tasteless, so it won't alter the taste of your fondant at all.

Thanks again everyone for the hint!! I love MMF, but have a awful time getting it to lay on a cake straight without bunching up on the bottom. I don't seem to have that problem with Wilton Fondant (YECK, I hate that stuff!) so I think it is because it is so stiff! I will give this a try!
(any hints on how to get fondant smooth on the bottom???)
I asked the same question here, about a month ago.
It does make the MMF easier to work with if you add the GumTex. AND, it will help to dry it faster when you are done modelling your pieces. I found that out the in the end.
My roses were taking forever (2 weeks, all told) to dry. I added the GumTex, which makes it more pliable when working with MMF. It dried the roses in under 2 days.
In other words, go for it!
Add the GumTex.
BTW....I just sprinkled a bit on my palm when working it into the smaller pieces, until there was no more cracking. For the whole batch, I used my judgement...and the directions on the side of the can. If it says to add 1 Tbsp to one box of Wilton Fondant, that worked out to about 2 Tbsp for my 8 cups of powdered sugar in the MMf. I added it to the icing sugar and mixed it in before adding the melted marshmallows.
Hope this helps, and good luck! ![]()

PS. about getting it smooth....buy a piece of clear vinyl (tablecloth type) from any Walmart Sewing Department, or any sewing store should have it. Roll it out BETWEEN 2 layers of this, and it will be smooth on both sides. Just remember to spread a bit of shortening before rolling out the fondant. ![]()
How did you make your MMF roses? Just like regular fondant?
I recently mixed my MMF with rolled buttercream; it makes it less dry, more stretchy for me, and it helps with the taste, of both, RBC is too sweet, and greasy for me.
If you put gumtex in the fondant that you use to cover your cake will it harden on the cake?

Yes it will make it hard, I would only use gumtex in the fondant for figures or flowers otherwise you will have a hard coating on your cake.
you know I have NEVER had a problem with making MMF it's always nice and soft and pliable.....I make it all the time even when I need just a small amount....I'll throw a handfull of marshmallows in a little bowl, little splash of water.microwave it and add pwdr sugar til it isn't sticky..........I think the problem everyone has with it being too dry is because everyone is so caught up on adding in all the powdered sugar........I have NEVER been able to get mine to take even close to 2 lbs. of sugar........but I don't measure it out anymore......dump the marshmallows.....splash some water......add some sugar........I think everyone needs to drop the 2 lb. measurement and just add sugar until it's not sticky anymore. I usually have to add extra sugar after it's not sticky anymore just to make it more stiff!!!! Depending on what I'm using it for of course........if I'm covering a cake in it I leave it soft...but for molding I need stiffer.
