I just came back from a wedding. One of the first things I went to see was the cake(s). I'm not the best by any means, but i definitely could have done them better. The grooms cake was a referee pattern with a basketball on top. I coulda easily made a basketball out of cake! The wedding cake was feasible too. Just wondering if any one else has felt this way because I certainly do! haha

Wow how rude! I did those cakes! ![]()
Just kidding!
LOL! My stomach sunk when I read your previous post. You're so bad. ![]()
I definitely do that too.
Are we bad for this??? ![]()
Nah....we're just human!!!
I have friends tell me about this cake or that cake that they saw at a party, wedding, etc. and "you could have done so much better, etc" It's nice to get their vote of confidence.
My aunt's wedding was last summer, and she didn't ask me to do the cake because there was someone in thier church who makes them. So, of course, I went first thing to see. It was soooo ugly! A big white Crisco frosting thing with two hearts piped on the front. That was it! Totally plain.
So, yes, I have felt that way too. ![]()
my husband is an electrician. no matter where we go he is always checking out the electrical work, and pointing it out. (like i care). i understand why he does it though. we just came from a cousin's birthday party out of town last weekend, and i kinda felt bad because i had a picture of the cake and not her! the cake was very pretty. kudos to the lady who make it. that is funny that we always check the cake out and size it up before noticing anything else.
Sorry I just have to laugh, because you know other cake decorators who go to weddings where you've done the cake also look at what you've done and say 'I could have done better than that!'
You all know that you can do better, because you are the best!!
I don't include myself because I know I'm not as talented as you.
LOL!
I am guilty of doing this too at any event there is a cake or cookies lol
my family is also guilty of looking and either telling me about it or taking pics for me to see. lol
even my son when he was at a party for a boy in his class came home and told me how bad the cake tasted and looked and how i could have done so much better. i just hope he didn't tell anyone at the party lol

Seems like DH and friends are trained! They always tell me all about the cakes and cookies whenever they go anywhere. Recently I was anticipating a wedding invitation from a church members daughter. I was soooo excited when it came.. but only because I want to see the cake!!! (it's being done by one of her bridesmaides who is also the grooms cousin). Is that bad?
i JUST went to my uncles wedding, (out of my state, but location will remain nameless) and i couldnt wait to get tot he cake..
the cake was nice.. i am on a diet so i told my Dh i needed the rundown.. then i went ahead and tasted some it was IMBC, my fav.. and a box cake.. the prob wasnt that it was box, although I bake from scratch, the problem was that it didnt even taste like doctored box, nor was it a good MOIST box.. my kids and my sister also said so..
then my uncle ask me how i liked the cake (course he knows how I feel about cake, his mom taught me how to bake) so I told him I didn;t like it.. My mom got upset but hey he ask so I told him.. then i went on to explain why
do you guys think that it's tacky to request/offer to do a cake for an event? not necessarily a wedding but perhaps?
Not if you are volunteering to do it for free. It is tacky to offer to do a cake and charge them.
I'm with LittleLinda about trying to charge if you ask to do the cake, but if its a family member/ friend and you will do it for free it doesn't hurt to ask. I myself was bummed when my cousin told me about his son's 1st bday and didn't ask me to do the cake. I'm hoping he will reconsider, but if not I will eat Costco cake and smile at the party. I'm too chicken to ask why he didn't ask me, or if I can do it. I guess in case he says no I don't really want to know why. It would break my heart if he didn't like my cake
