I just got on my puter & I found this message...

Auto-Protect Results

I tired closing it out & a box popped up saying..
Warning: if you close this dialog with out taking action, risk removal will not be completed.

Are you sure you want to close this dialog?

Filename: Adware.Zango...

Reboot Required-partial

Does anyone know what this means? I have never seen something like this before. Could it be a virius? Oh boy! I hope not. I'd appreciate any help! Thanks!! thumbs_up.gif

just googled it...

yep -- it's a virus!

built inside a browser monitoring program that pops up ad sites based on what your looking at.

how to get rid of it depends ---
advice varies.
google it for your options.

not sure..

conflicting advice on it

some said to delete the associated program (control panel - add/remove programs)

others said run virus protection.

I'd try close first -- and then reboot if it still doesn't go away.

and run your anti-virus software!

Thanks very much Doug! I guess I need to call my puter friend tomorrow & also have a cake ready for him. This is probably why my puter has been running slow for the past few days! Darn!! Thanks again~

sorry couldn't help more.

Hope it all works out (probably will -- most of the anti-virus sites didn't rate it as a very bad threat -- more of an annoyance)

(do I get a cake fee too!? icon_rolleyes.gif)

Do not count on it being gone. If you don't have McAffee or one of the others, go ahead and get it now and run the scan. (You can get it for about $40 on line) I had a similar one before and it kept popping up boobies in the middle of my typing. When working I type about 95wmp and I type with my eyes closed during interviews. It would get so distracting to realize I had lost half of an interview due to boobie shots. It took FOREVER to get rid of that thing because I have a home network and I had to go around Robin Hood's barn to wipe that bad boy out completely. Just be aware that it's probably still about hiding behind something tracking your computer activity.

I got my virus when my computer genious husband was away. I had to learn double quick. Not only did I have to figure out the real world of computers, but I had to figure out the weird hookup my software company vice president husband left me with - not an easy task. I spent a sold week color coding wires so that it would be more "me friendly".

Just a little commercial here: Grisoft has an excellent free AV product. They also have a commercial version, but my dad is a VP at Grisoft (hence the commercial reference icon_wink.gif ) and he told me to install the free version and it's worked out really well for me!

The school district I work for as a computer tech uses AVG exclusively! It's wonderful....far superior to McAfee. I would strongly suggest running a scan with some anti-viral software. Viruses often change your registry keys (that's why they keep coming back).
I have links on my schools internet safety webpage for free resources and AVG is one of them. You can see them here....click the resources tab and scroll down....

JodieF-I'm glad to hear someone else likes the product as well as I do! I'll be sure to tell my dad when I see him tomorrow! (We're meeting up for a family trip to Disney---whoo-hoo!!!! )
Here is a direct link to the free version:
