Help!!!!! I have a very smelly problem!!! My DH brought home some precooked shrimp from the deli(on sale) wrapped up in paper, put it in the top shelf of the fridge and not the meat drawer......GRR!!! I didn't find it until he took it out to use it. It smelled fishy, and I should have known it was bad.

I made him get the package out of my fridge, but he apparently dripped juice inside. He said he had wiped it up, but by today it is really horrid!!!! I've cleaned out the fridge and wiped it down with lysol, and even wiped down all the containers in the fridge. I had to throw out some fresh produce that had soaked up the smell too. I even put an open box of baking soda in there......

NOTHING IS WORKING!!!! And it's killing me!! Can't even open the frige without keeling over!!! I don't know what to do!!!

Does anyone know the solution here?? I am open to any advise!!!! YUCK!!!!!!!

I find that hanging some tea bags in the fridge works for me. Put a few extra if your fridge is extra stinky and change it every couple of days. Good luck.

Wipe everything down with a bleach solution. It doesn't have to be strong. Then loosely crumple up newspaper and put it in the empty spaces. If you don't have a lot of empty space you're going to want to take some stuff out and create some. Change the newspaper daily until the smell is gone. It should work in a few days. If it still smells, you may need to get rid of more than you thought. It might be time for a total fridge cleaning. Newspaper is great though. We put a few pieces loosely crumpled in the bottom of our garbage can (we have a larger stainless one in our kitchen) and we rarely have to clean it because the newspaper soaks up all the smell!

Periodically, I take everything out of my fridge and clean it with warm baking soda water (about 1/2 cup of baking soda in 1 gallon water). Then I rinse it with clean water about 3 times.

put some fresh coffe in there, of course you can't use the coffee afterward. also try using some charcoal. and i would recommend using some bleach water as well. you may not have gotten all the juice out of the cracks you may not have seen it. but the coffee and the charcoal may help as well.

my variation --

wash very well w/ the bleach ...

then rinse very well

then final rinse is a baking soda rinse that is allowed to dry in place -- will leave a fine film of powder.

(the tea bags sound really interesting!)

I swear by Clorox cleanup in the kitchen . . . its a bleach cleaner and I have never had it fail to get the smell out of things.

If you can find a pet store that sells Nature's Miracle, it will work on any smells. I had a boss that owned his pet store and had bought some shrimp and placed it on the floor of his car. His container leaked the shrimp juice all ove the carpet of his car. He poured this Nature's Miracle on it and the smell left immediately. If you can not find a store the phone number for the company is (877) 880-8855 item #5513 041-0254-00 Nature's Miracle -Stain & Ordor Remover.

Well, now we know why we hear stories of how some women wreak revenge on unsatisfactory or philandering boyfriends/partners by sewing shrimp into the hems of their curtains or stuffing them down the backs of sofas and chairs... Phew!!!

EUREKA!!!

Thanks ladies!!! I have finally gotten rid of the smell!!! Turns out you were right about the juices having seeped into the seams of the shelves. Those glass shelve with trim on them are really stinkers(oh, there's a pun!! LOL) to get clean!!

I had to also get into the meat tray and everything that had been opened, even in storage bags had to be thrown out. icon_sad.gif Including balona and potatoes.

I put the tea bags in there too after I did all the other suggestions ...I'm still going to do the newpaper trick for future stinkaroos!! Only this time it will preventative and not a scramble to solve a mess!

Thanks again for all your great help!! CC to the rescue again!! icon_smile.gif

Good to hear that you fridge is stinky no more!!! You can leave the tea bags in all the time and it helps keep the fridge fresh. Just change them regularly.

Love your signature. Somedays I feel like that too!! LOL!
