I am doing this wedding cake for a neighbor and I have no idea what to price it as. The bottom tier will be a 12" and the top a 6". Will be yellow w/ buttercream and will have get ready......made from royal.....415 loops, 150 drop flowers, with rosettes in vertical rows, so who knows how many rosettes (a lot). I am doing this for her plus a extra sheet cake for maybe 25, just in case we do not have enough cake.

What in the world should i charge her. I told her i would give it to her for a good price, since i am new to this, i am in the process of making my practice cake right now, and so far so good.

I was thinking along the lines of 250-300? Any suggestions????... icon_confused.gif

Hhmmm....I'd say $300 as a minimum! How many does it serve? In the San Diego area, I'm guessing about $4.00 per serving (Wilton size servings). I'd check with a few of your local bakeries.

I'd probably say $275. If it's a 6 and 12 inch it would serve around 68 people according to Wilton. And at that price you would be getting a little over $4.00 per serving. The cake looks fairly simple to do, the only thing is the royal decorations will be time consuming. But with all those done in advance it should be pretty easy to assemble. Good luck!

That's what i was thinking (250-300). You're right about the cake not being that bad to construct, just the decorations which i am making now (wedding date is april 29th). I don't want to sticker shock her, but that is actaully cheap compared to the local cake shop.
Thanks for the help!!

This is a cake that looks like it could take a lot of time. It gets a little tricky because you are doing it for a neighbor. Where I live, at least $4.50 a serving. I wouldn't let it go for less than $450 minimun and hopefully you should/could get $500. So your a beginner. What does that mean? We are always learning something. She is going to have a beautiful cake and aren't you going to give her a little 6" to keep? Now you have it.

I am also doing a wedding cake on April 29th. The wedding I am doing is for 230 people. I am charging 450.00 for the cake. I do not have all those royal icing decorations that look like a real pain. I am thinking 300.00 sounds like a very fair price. Those decorations will take a lot of time! icon_smile.gif

Good luck and please post a picture! icon_wink.gif

I'd say $2.50 per serving plus $100 for detailed pre-made items... The gift is you setting it up at the site!

It is time consuming, im going to have carpal tunnel by the time im done w/ all these loops.
okay, I think i may go to the local cake shop and ask their opinion too. Is that rude???? anyhoo...
I can't wait to see it finished, i am going to construct the cake at the reception, im sure it will take an hour just to set it up.
I love her to death, but go figure she is going to pick the cake that is the biggest pain in the whole book. lol..... icon_smile.gif
