Well, here I am a week before the big wedding cake I have been commissioned to make, and we have a disaster in our household!!!
I came home from shopping this morning to find my husband waiting at the door. He informs me that the credit card we use for my cake decorating has been hacked and the account is cleaned out!!! Someone has stolen our information and taken an expensive trip to, get this...
Cannes Film Festival in France!!!!!!!!!
Not only did they use it once, but they tried a second time and it was rejected. Thank God!! But the damage is done now! Every single cent I was saving for this cakes ingredients is gone!! And no more money is coming into the house till the first of the month, unless my worthless ex-husband pays his child support on time............AGGGGHHHH!!!!!
I feel so violated!! You always hear about other people this stuff happens to...you never think it could be you.
Wait.....OMG....it's Friday the 13th.....I thought it was Good Friday.......guess not..![]()

OH NOOO! I am so so sorry to hear about this. Unbelievable some people in this world. Wish I could help ![]()
I'm sorry for you! I had my AMEX hacked a couple of Christmases ago. Luckily, a salesperson at a toy store caught it and called it in. But, not before 5000.00 was charged. Marshall Fields; Coach, etc. in Chicago, IL. no less!
Do you have a plan yet? Can you use another card?
Beth in KY
I'm so sorry that happened to you!! Is it going to take a long time to straighten out the charges? I know that some card companies quickly get your card back to you.
Good luck!
Angie
So sorry this happened to you. It has happened to me twice. The first time someone used it for internet pornography and the 2nd time they went to Disney world and tried to buy some clothing online. I was able to contact the clothing company before it was sent so they didnt get that at least. Fortunately the credit card company was easy to work with both times and I never had to pay any money. I did file a police report with the information I had (such as the name and address the clothes were supposed to be sent) Good luck to you getting back on track.
I've already been paid for the cake...months ago. I used the bulk of it to pay for flowers and other decorations for the cake itself and the rest went to equipment. I way under charged her as I found out later, and the ingredients are out my own pocket.....live and learn...so asking for something from her is a no.
It was indeed a credit card account. We've been using that for emergency and cake decorating only. All our other money just went out in bills. Not including groceries. Now I will have to take the grocery money and the money that was marked for our 2 kids' birthday this next week and put it all into ingredients. We will have to explain to the kids that this has happened and do something next month to make up for it.
I hate this......makes me feel very unsafe in the world.....
The credit card company has 48 hours to call us and talk to us about this, my husband filed a dispute about it. Hopefully it will be fixed quickly and live can go on as normal. Otherwise it's going to be very interesting.......
I'm so sorry that this happened to you. One of my former coworkers stole my SSN (she got it at work) and used it to get credit approval for a home security system. She then proceeded to not pay for the system, so guess who the security company came after ... ME! It took me several months to get that all straightened out. I completely understand the feeling of being violated. It's awful.
Make sure you put a fraud alert on your SSN ... you can go to the website of any of the 3 major credit bureaus and file the fraud alert. Then, you will be able to get a free copy of your credit report, and no one will be able to use your credit without you being notified first.
I hope that your credit card company gets back to you soon and that this is all straightened out soon. {{{Hugs}}}

This is good advice!
I am so sorry this happened to you, I wish there was someway I could help but I am to far away =(
I'm sorry that, that happens to anybody, anywhere, at any time. ![]()
Unfortunately this is what our world has come too. People having to deal with excuse me please (Inerrant Imbeciles) who have no regard for others let alone themselves.
What goes around, comes around and you reap what you sow. Plant bad seeds, you harvest damaged crops. Not to say you did anything wrong, mind you. Keep on dotting your I's and crossing your T's and good will surley come out of ithis
Watch you'll see.
My prayer are with you and your's.
Man, this totally bites! I got my wallet stolen while shopping, by the time I realized it was gone(at check out) the b**** went through ALL of my cards, including one that wasn't even activated!(that one was declined). But cakesbyjess is right, do all you can to protect yourself, cuz that woman that stole my wallet, went to my bank deposited a check written out "me" for $500, then withdrew $400 of my dollars, and she managed to do it with my SS#! (got it from my insurance card). I wish the best of luck, people suck!
Oh my gosh, I am so sorry this has happened to you! I am praying that everything will work out for you in the best possible way, and that you are able to get the ingredients, etc. and get your cake done and also go ahead with your normal plans.
I agree with the fraud alert advice! My DH had to do this because of a fraudulent and expensive cell phone account someone had managed to open with his info!
I had my purse stolen from my car, which was parked in my garage at home (nice, peaceful, new neighborhood) a few years ago. I had forgotten to bring it in the house when I got home and had to carry the baby in and forgot to go back to get it.
Anyway, I canceled all my credit cards and closed my checking account to open a new one. I filed a police report all that jazz. Well, they had used my credit cards at the gas station a few times but since I'd closed my accounts, I wasn't responsible for it. The annoying part was the next few months that they used my checks at various stores. The stores sent me letters saying that I owed them money for bounced checks and that I wasn't permitted to use checks in their stores anymore (I don't use checks anyway except to pay bills and such. The only reason that I had my checkbook in my purse that day was that I'd been to the bank!). I had to send copies of the police report to these places and whatnot. Yeah, I didn't have to pay anything but it's a huge inconvenience.
I'm sorry you have to go through all that. It can be so frustrating! ![]()
On a more recent note, I have a credit monitoring service (free credit report.com) that lets me know when there are changes to my ssn. Well, they recently informed me that my address had been changed...to some place in Hamilton, OH! I put an alert on my SSN in case there was someone trying something sinister. I don't know what someone would be planning but I have never been to Hamilton OH. I used to live in Columbus OH over a year ago but still never had been to Hamilton. The only connection that I can think of is sugarcraft but it's not their address...it's someplace on Gray Rd, which doesn't come up in mapquest.
It is so horrible that this has happened to you. I have known someone who as a child had their identity stolen. I hope this is the end of your troubles with it. My credit card company shuts mine off whenever I go shopping in a new town. I should be thankful I guess.
Have you ordered from Sugarcraft recently? I don't mean to be bad-mouthing them but it looks rather suspicious from my point of view. I just did a mapquest from their address to the one that shows up on my credit report and it's less than 4 miles away...possibly an employee stealing info??
No
I wish! I've been wanting to!! My husband (a federal police officer) thinks that it is someone from the bank level. Based on the purchases made. I mean really!! Canne???!!!! France??!!! Only in our dreams would that be us!!! I haven't been out of the states since 1987...and that was to Chile, South America!
I am hoping that we get things straightened out very soon. In the meantime my DH has decided that we must do the "rob peter to pay paul" act this month to make sure that we have groceries to feed our family and ingredients to get the wedding cake and the two birthday cakes done.
Don't you just hate having to do that??? Oh well, that's life I guess. Thanks for all the kind words, it is such a comfort(believe it or not) to know that there are people out there that care, and nice to know that, as sucky as it is, there are folks that understand from similar experiences.
Thanks guys!! ![]()
My DH's business credit card # was stolen almost 2 years ago when mastercard had that BIG security breach. One person in France used it to buy a book about building bombs and one in Germany bought a book on chemical warfare. Scary!!!!! We had to turn everything we knew over to the FBI and who knows where it went from there. Bad thing is this horrible news came on the day we were suppose to come home from the hospital with baby #4. What was going to be an extremely happy day ended up being horrid. We just felt so violated! You might be able to get everything taken care of quickly. It took us about 5 days. Sorry this happened to you!! ![]()
WOW! I cannot believe how horrible some people can be. My bank did recently cancel my debit card because - get this - I used the card at a department store - 1 time, when I was traveling for work - in 1999 during my companies Y2K project!!!!! The 'dept' store had saved acct numbers...yep, it's illegal, but they did it...and someone hacked into their database and stole the numbers...unfortunately, my bank sent a letter to inform me it was cancelled...which didn't reach me until I had (embarrassingly) been declined (as stolen) more than once.....UGH!!!!
I'm so sorry this has happened to you.....I wish you were nearby so I could help!!!!
Thanks for the thought.....we have taken the money set aside for a different bill and used it to pay for the ingredients and a few groceries to get us by till payday next weekend. I hate having to do that, but what else could we do. On top of that I changed the fabric for the table top, I want it perfect and I wasn't satisfied with what I got first. Luckly I got good discount at Joann's and it wasn't too much.
Now I've got to get sewing and caking! Not only do I have that wedding but I am doing my little girls birthday and cupcakes for school on Thursday! And I just got a call to do a sheet pan of brownies for a ladies church function tonight! In the middle of the wedding cake I have my sons 16th birthday as well. I'm tired just thinking of all that I have before me!!
Next week we will have to deal with this theft and jump down the banks throats and see what happens...we of course haven't heard squat from them so far!! ![]()
Thanks for all the support and kind wishes!! ![]()
