Anyone have any bright ideas for a grooms cake I can do for a man who runs/owns a carpet cleaning business? When the bride to be told me she might like something in that line of work, I was stumped... so I figured hey, ask my fellow cc'ers! Any suggestions would be GREAT, because I personally have none! TIA

big ol' square or rectangular cake.

use grass tip.

pull out very short for pile carpeting look (or if very talented for that sculpted carpet look ....

but of course this is a dirty carpet he has started to clean!

and where he has cleaned spells out whatever message is desired.
for example
"he made a clean sweep of her"
"he swept her off her feet"
"he sure cleaned up when he got her"

so TWO shades of the same color icing--- "dirty and clean"

then add fondant figure (him) in uniform running a cleaning machine also made out of fondant.

maybe (tho' might be tacky) add his company name or logo on the sides of cake.

Doug- So cute!! I can always picture your ideas in my head! that is fun

I have never been to a wedding with a groom's cake! What is it and what for? Is it a regional thing? I live in California- are they southern?

yep, a southern tradition that is spreading across the country

(in no small part thanks to the movie version of Steel Magnolias and its dead armadillo groom's cake made out of red velvet so it would look like bloody meat when cut)

When I asked my mom about them, she said it was a way of providing creative levity to the pom and circumstance of the wedding. For instance, in my family, the grooms cake was on the same side as the beer, while the wedding cake had the punch. Much of this (according to her) was back when wedding cakes were strictly white and loaded in flowers and frilly stuff. The grooms cake would typically be a different flavor (red velvet, chocolate) and more fun.

That said, I'm also from a family where the men could go into the basement with my grandfather during the holidays for a bit of "liquid warmth" but the lady folks had to remain in the parlor and sitting room.

My in-laws are also from Alabama and when I saw their wedding photos they also had a grooms cake. So, I had a replica of their grooms cake made for my hubbies groom cake when we got married over 11 years ago! It went faster than my wedding cake did....and I order a small version of it every year for our anniversary and the bakery I get it from said that my grooms cake started a "wave" of grooms cake requests in Ohio! I think they're fabulous!

I grew up in California and had never heard of the groom's cake until I got married in Atlanta. A friend was making my cakes and asked what I wanted for it. I was stumped. I didn't realize it was a regional thing either. I just thought I was clueless about wedding traditions growing up.

I'm from Alabama and I didn't know until today that they didn't have Groom's cakes except for in the South. I guess I learn something new everyday! My husband's groom cake was a from scratch red velvet cake with cream cheese icing. It definately went faster than the regular wedding cake!

I just found this on a site that someone else sent me to! I thought it was really a good definition and also fun the legend part!

She also calls the other cake a bride's cake. I thought that helped it make sense for me too! FYI she's in TX (is that the south? icon_lol.gif)

The origin of the groom's cake is unclear. Legend has it that if you sleep with a piece of groom's cake under your pillow, you will dream of your future husband or wife.
Groom's cakes are typically chocolate to contrast with the white wedding cake. You will see all types of groom's cakes in this portfolio, from traditional to 3-D sculpted cakes.
