Has anyone made this frosting and if so how was it? Was it easy to decorate and frost with? Any tips to offer? Also did you have a problem leaving the cake out at room temp & how was the taste? Thank you.
I have made it and have done some simple decorating (shells and such). I'm using it this week for a star wars cake and I haven't been able to get the colors very dark, but other than that, no real problems. The practice cake I made was left out with no problems.
Does this frosting taste like whipped or buttercream or is it a combination of both? My husband is very picky about frosting (must be whipped) but I find whipped difficult to decorate with...
I baked a cake for someone who is very picky about the frosting (Not too sweet, not too buttery, not too crisco-like) and she loved it. I do agree that it is hard to pipe with even though others swear they can make roses with it. I did use it to make grass though and each blade of grass held it's shape.
this is my new favorite frosting!! It's delicious , light & fluffy, and best of all, not too sweet. I've only frosted cakes and done borders so far and I found it great to work with. Haven't tried roses yet though. It's also great for fillings! I mixed crushed oreos in some of it for a cookies-n-cream filling and everyone loved. I especially loved it since it didn't require refrigeration.
when the cake is frosted does it need to be refrigerated? thanks guys for all the info.

I left my cake out for several days......As long as you don't have a filling that needs refrigeration, then you can leave it out for a while. I just finished using up some left over frosting today that I made last wednesday and it was just as yummy ![]()
If you want frosting that tastes like whipped cream, make the 'creamy whipped frosting'...here it is...
Made with evaporated milk, this achieves the consistency of whipped cream.
1/2 cup butter, softened
1/2 cup shortening
2/3 cup white sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2/3 cup cold evaporated milk
1 In a large bowl, cream butter, shortening, sugar and vanilla for 8 to 10 minutes. With mixer on high, add cold evaporated milk 1 tablespoon at a time.
2 Frost cake as desired and keep refrigerated.
I tried this frosting this weekend and I like the texture and look of it (just like the baker) but when it came to doing roses it was a bit too soft. what can i do? I have no idea how someone can do basketweave with this. Would adding some meringue powder to it make it a bit stiffer without making it crusted?
caixa your basketweave looks great. Did you add an extra tsp to the whole batch or just your decorating portion?
