I am about to make a birthday cake for my soon to be 1 year old. The cake I am making is shown in the "Pink dog lovey cake" post. I will be rolling out MMF. I have only used MMF once and when I did it was difficult to roll out the MMF. I could only get it to about 3/8 inch thick. I would have liked it to be thinner but it was difficult to roll it out. So, it sounds like it had too much sugar and needed to add a couple of drops of water but then it got sticky.
My question is how thick do most people roll out their fondant and how do you get it more pliable without it getting sticky?
I put in in the microwave to warm it up a bit. Then roll it out while it's warm. Be careful not to leave it in there for more than a few seconds at a time, you'll burn yourself!
When you make the MMF, be careful not to add too much ps. It also helps to add a bit of shortening to the dough as you mix it.
Then, as Lindsayu83 recommends, after it rests, warm it a bit. It can also help to roll it between two sheets of plastic fabric.
